The fastest I could get mine was about 176 by the speedo. Its all stock gearing. That sound about right?

Sounds about right give or take a few because the guages on all motorcycles aren't up to par 100%.

i goto 286km/h. that was at pretty much at redline. i don't think the stock rc51 had the gearing to hit 300km/h. should have the power though.

original RC 16:40 V-MAX
40:16=2,5000 = 100% 278kmh Speedo
41:16=2,5625 = 102,5% 284,95kmh
42:16=2,6225 = 104,9% 291,62kmh
40:15=2,6666 = 106,66% 296,51kmh
41:15=2,7333 = 109,33% 303,93kmh
42:15=2,8000 = 112% 311,36kmh
With a Speedoholder it can be compensated for.

Mit einem Speedoholder kann es für ersetzt werden.

your 298kmh (42:15)

298*278= 82844/311,36=266,06 kmh actual speed

Even the 4cyl 1lit SS bikes can't get past 280 real speed, and they have tons more power these days. Those that think they do and keep trying to prove it by their speedometer should take a good look at their clutch plates frying.
Enjoy the bike and forget the numbers.

I had the GPS on my SP1 at Road Atlanta earlier this month.
Gearing was 15f/43r and 180/55 rear tire.
Not really the right gearing for highspeed Road Atl, and I was maxed at 144. That's actual speed on GPS. My friend on his Gixxer 600 was showing 160+ on his speedometer, not so accurate...
Another friend of mine has a spreadsheet that calculates gearing, rpm, and tire diameter to find theoretical top speed. Mine was figured at 149, but that's the perfect mathematical solution, not the real world. Until you've been there, taking turn 9 at RA flat out at max speed sounds easier than it is!
Ironic thing is that I have had that GPS at 149 mph on my VFR on the street! That was the standard gearing for the VFR and certainly not pulling redline in 6th.
Florida straight flat roads are much easier than the race track, no chicanes at the bottom of a hill to worry about...

When you say maxed was it redline 6th? It seems too low, even with the gearing you have. Are you sure your clutch is not slipping?

Yep. GPS, not speedometer. Like I said mathematically that gearing and tire diameter worked out to 149 at redline according to my friend's spreadsheet.

Ahh.. I see, so you were running out of room at 144 not power.
With 149 * (16/40)/(15/43) = 170.85 mph for stock gearing
Maybe downhill then and all hidden out of the wind 5'5" and 120lb :)
