I have a Power Commander II and its telling me my bikes running lean. I bought it used and don't have the software/maps. Any advice on how to make the mixture richer. I also believe this is the problem why its running at higher temperatures. Thanks

You should finda a website to down load a map thats close to the mods you have. Thats if you have the cable to connect to the Power Commander. If you dont, borrow one or buy one. Better yet, get it on a dyno and have it custom mapped.

Custom map is the way to go. They compensate for every bikes flaws because no 2 bikes are the same. There's altitude, amount of ethanol in the mixture, mileage, weight of rider ect. A bit pricey but well worth every penny.

How is your pc2 telling you your bike is running lean??? I have a pc3 which is obviously newer and better than a pc2 and it doesn't tell me or show me that. I don't think I'm wrong on this even though occasionaly I am. Isn't the only way to tell if the bike is truly running rich or lean is to get an a/f reading on a dyno or get an o2 sensor installed in the exhaust.

What do you have that is telling you this cause I WANT IT !!!!!

That would be a nice data logging feature.

The PC has three buttons along the bottom labeled low rev, mid rev, and high rev and it has a small display on the left labeled lean at the bottom and rich at the top. You choose which rev and then give it that (i.e. click low rev and give it low revs and so on) then on the display a light goes up, in my case it stays low indicating its running lean, it does this at all revs. Maybe this is completely wrong but it seems to make sense to me.

Running lean will most definitely cause higher temps!
Ever heard the phrase "melted a piston"? Yup. That hot.

The buttons don't tell you the measured A/F ratio.
They indicate the amount of deviation from the current map baseline at that rev range (low, mid, hi).
So if you have a map with a certain A/F ratio, if you select a rev range and modify the setting with the button(s), the A/F ratio will reflect the change.
You need a sensor to measure the actual A/F ratio.
The RC51 never had a lamba sensor like newer bikes do.
If you want to modify your map, then download the software form Power Commander's site and install on a laptop along with the cable (serial for pre-PCIIIUSB). It has finer adjustment than the buttons.

I can see that thin air in Colorado is getting to you. Everything you just said is completely false as sub pointed out. That green light is just telling you basically where your at in the map and at what throttle position. Its not telling you if your rich or lean. Plop down the $275 or whatever it cost and go get you a custom tune and then the tuner will explain to you how it all works.

Thanks Subsailor, I guess I assumed wrong. Could you explain in a little more detail how I can modify the settings with just the buttons? Thanks

And Jgos929, bite me brokeback.

I guess I assumed wrong.

This says it all right here.

Please keep the insults to a minimum you don't want to get started with me.

You insult me, I insult you. And I have no problem with you, I'm sure your a nice enough person but what exactly do I have to fear by getting started with you? Are you going to virtually kick my ass or are you just going to hurt my feelings?

Jgos929,

Are you starting to realize that your replies rub people the wrong way? If that's your intention, then congratulations and mission accomplished. But if that is not your intention, then maybe you should try toning it down a little - just a suggestion. And BTW - your response here will clearly divulge what your intentions are.

Then maybe you should tell everyone to stop being so sensitive including your self. I have quite a few posts in case you haven't noticed and trust me 90% of them are positive and helpful to other members and the other 10% is nothing but blatant honesty and attempts to make people aware that its easier then they make it out to be. For example in this thread I simply stated that his pc in fact doesn't do what he thought it did and then he made an attempt to prove me wrong when the end all be all of this site subsailor(who is nothing but helpful and manages to put up with my replies I'm sure with a grin on his face) came in and in fact backed what I was saying. "I can see that thin air is getting to you" is takin as an insult and in return a "brokeback" comment is hurled at me, which I take it as him calling me a homosexual, fag, queer, gay or whatever was on his mind when he made the comment. Your telling me to tone it down? Here you come in and talk to me like your my father trying to get a rise out of me with comments like " your response will clearly divulge your intentions". Do me a favor dad and stay out of threads that you make no contibution to whatsoever. Clearly your intentions are to instigate things and that to me rubs people the wrong way.

Jgos929,

You can look through all of my posts and see that I never say anything derogatory about anyone. If you take anything I write as an attack or insult then you have misconstrued my intentions. But, as I predicted, your response clearly indicates your intentions to anybody who cares to read it.

No response is welcome or necessary. Good luck.

Judging from your response I can tell I hurt your feelings and I apologize. You obviously can't comprehend what I said. I never said that you said anything derogatory about anyone nor did I think you were attacking me. I simply (as simple as I could) stated that you were involving your self in a thread you have nothing to do with and after reading my posts replied and there for instigated the events that have led to now. And somehow after trying to explain this to you you clearly understand my intentions??? You have no idea what your talking about and know nothing about me or my intentions. Good luck to you my friend cause clearly there are some deep seated emotions you are dealing with if your letting some internet banter affect you like this. No need for you to respond cause I don't expect it to be as uplifting as your last post. The unemployment rate is rising everyday and here you are going round an round with me. Get back to work. Your obviously on the verge of going postal at your local church or shopping mall and I would hate for that to happen because I gave you a written beat down on a motorcycle forum and you lost your job. Its the internet buddy stop taking everything so seriously and let's have some fun.

I love you

Your Son
