Don't forget the speedometer correction if you change the gearing.
Since I'm sure the RC51 is plenty fast stock, my first mod would be suspension set-up...

exhaust & pcIII are the main 2 in my opinion. Which one you do 1st is up to you.

well there would be no point in really doing the Power commander first as I would just have to get the thing re-tuned once I install the exhaust right?

Either way, PCIII and full exhaust is a pricey first mod! Gotta love it though!

I COMPLETELY DISAGREE!!! The pcIII is probably the best mod you can do 1st. Even running it with the re-tuned map for a completely stock bike will make it run a hell of alot better. For $270 I say get the pcIII then exhaust. You'll thank me later. Remember though, your not gonna pick up a ton of hp with any mod for these bikes unless you do motor work. With the pcIII its more drivability your looking for. You'll gain alittle power, but the thing is gonna drive a hell of alot better.

hmm, nver really thought about it that way. I would have thought the factory tune would have been pretty on point. What part of the map are you re-tuning? Low end power, for like stop and go traffic?

Well I dont know about yours but when mine was all stock it was real jerky in between 2k-4k rpms no matter what gear you were in. The pcIII will fix that for one. When you download the pcIII software to your computer you can import a whole bunch of different maps from the pc website. The 51's run real rich when stock. You can upload a map that is made for a completely stock bike that will lean it out across the entire rpm range. Your bike will run smoother and better and you'll probably gain a few miles per gallon also.

For instance mine is a 2000 Sp1 with the flapper mod D&D cans and a pcIII. I was playin around with maps last night and since there isn't one that I know of for a bike with d&d cans(cause everyone hates them) I used the map for sato slipons and my bike runs like a top. I want to get a custom map just for my setup but that cost a pretty penny.
