: Barnet clutch springs : so much longer than OEM

I recently received a set of new Barnett clutch springs for my SP2.
According to the Barnett site I got the right set: 501-56-06096 (MT-96-6).

However, they seem SO long! They measure 2.9" long new.
From the RC51 OEM service manual, the service limit of the OEM springs is 2.28"

Has anyone installed Barnett springs before? Are they supposed to be that much longer than OEM? Seems they'll need to be under a whole load of compression to fit.

TIA...

I have them on mine and don't worry they work just fine

I've been having real problems getting the right kit. I've purchased two kits now and with the friction plates and steel plates the stack height is totally off. Does anyone know what the deal is? I screwed up and ordered the SP1 Kit the first time, and this time bought just the SP2 plates off eBay. I think I've been sent the wrong thing twice.

So for an SP2, you have qty 6 of 301-45-10008, and qty 1 of 301-45-10022 for friction plates.
And qty 6 of 401-35-078027 for drive plates?

Yeah, I have all the right plates and am installing the judder spring. These replacement plates and discs are just so much thinner than the OE.

Not to be daft, but are you talking about my original question about the length of the Barnett clutch springs, or is this something different? Wondering if you might get more pertinent responses in another differently-named thread.

The free length of the OEM springs is 2.4", so your Barnett springs are .5" longer.
They're supposed to be stronger springs. I figured they were a higher spring rate.
Instead, they may be preloaded more. Do they coil bind when you disengage the clutch?
I'd suggest contactoing Barnett before installing or using just in case.

Yeah, half an inch seems excessive...usually the coils are just a little thicker to add something like 10-15 percent increase in seat pressure over stock. I had to help a buddy out on his 99 GSXR 600 a few months back for his clutch. The barnett had a narrower clutch stack than the old stock clutch.... I dont know whats going on with Barnett.

Seems they should work just fine! :D
I'm using a new set of OEM plates: steel and friction.
I've always found on my racebikes that OEM plates with Barnett springs work best.

In the beginning you can feel like that but as time will pass you will find that very comfortable and nice with you.
