Hi. I am a new RC51 owner. It is a 2003. Has upgrades. I love the ride.

I looked on this board when I decided to get an RC and the information was a big help. I got the skinny on the SP1 and SP2 and hop ups.

I'm in the Dallas area. If you want to ride, holla.

I also have some stock parts if anyone needs them. Signals, chain, pipes.

Thanks again.

L8r.

Thanks. I will get some pics. This is my work PC and they are at home. I got this bike from a guy that worked at a Honda dealer for 17 years. He pulled it out of the crate from Honda and put it together and babied it ever since. He had the brochure, manual and all parts in little baggies that were labeled. He even let me ride it before I bought it.

It has sato low mounts, PC III with a great tune, Titanium hangers, steel braided lines for brakes, chain conversion, new tires all free mods. Pics to follow.

It has had a scotts damper on it to run the Texas mile. It did 164 and he said it had anout 500 RPM left. This was after the conversion on the chain. I just ordered a damper to put back on it and some rearsets.

Leadfinger Sweet RC51! My '03 came from a tech who worked at a Honda dealer AS WELL! Here's mine, with some of the other culprits, the CBR was sold to pay for the RC. John

Thanks! Yours looks great also. It looks like you take care of your bikes. That older Honda, which I do not know what it is, looks like it has a huge inline six! I had found two rc's in my area for sale and they were both owned by Honda techs. It seems like that is the bike the techs like.

Hey Lead where in Dallas are you? I live in Plano and work in Dallas. Me and some buddys usually try to take a ride every sunday morning eat lunch then split off from there. Lets hook up sometime. I've had my RC since July and haven't seen another one.

10-02-2008, 04:40 PM
Yeah cool.

I'll hit u up soon. We might try to knock out alittle cruise on Sunday morning if your interested. We usually meet at a shell station on the corner of grapevine mills pkwy and 121 by grapevine mills mall. Its kind of a central spot cause the folks in our group are coming from all different directions. There was about 12 of us last weekend. Me and a buddy of mine on a superhawk were the only twins in the group.

Hey gjos. I cannot make it this morning. I looked here yesterday and did not see the page 2 on this thread. I was lookin for a PM also so I did not think you replied. It is too late notice now. I will plan on definately doing this next Sunday if you want to stay in touch. BTW, if you go to Denton or Grapevine to meet, I can meet with you on 380 or bush and we can roll together on our RC's. That would be pretty cool. l8r.

No problem man. It was a good ride until my bike crapped out on me on the way home right at 635 and the Tollway. I gotta play operation when I get home and try to diagnose the problem.

I am sorry to hear that about your bike. What happened? I had an issue this week also that I had to resolve Saturday with my bike. Here is my e-mail address kkhoury@sbcglobal.net
Shoot me your e-mail and I'll give you my number. I could have met up a little later. The hangover factor was not good that early yesterday morning =)

Do you have your bike fixed j? LMK if I can help.

jgos929
10-10-2008, 10:55 AM
No not yet. I was sick as a dog for a few days this week and didn't get around to it. I've been reading on a couple of forums and discovered it could be a number of things. It looks like its somewhere in the rear wire harness so I should only have to pull the tail off and go from there. Its got an alarm on it so I'm gonna ditch that first so I can clean up the wiring in the trunk. If you know anything about the wiring on these bikes that would be a big help. I got a buddy with an 05 1000rr comin by tomorrow so I can install his pcIII for him but he doesn't know alot about bikes so he won't be to much help. I'm gonna get up early and go get a volt meter cause mine crapped out and then hit it hard and try to fix it so maybe I can ride alittle sunday morning. If you get bored tomorrow sometime and wanna hang drink a beer and talk bikes hit me up. When it comes to electrical issues 2 heads are better than one. My email is jgos929@yahoo.com My name is Jerrod by the way.

Hey. Tomorrow sounds cool. I will send you my number. I might be able to help. Power to the pump and FI systems was my first thought also. That switch on the handlebars would come to mind also for the ignition kill. I ordered a full service manual. It is for a 00 to 03. They called to say they have it but I have to go get it. Maybe it will help if needed. TTYL.

Leadfinger
10-13-2008, 04:17 PM
That is a good idea. Shake it down. That is what I have been doing also. I put new rearsets on last week and had to do some brake work because of it. I have been trying to ride to get it all adjusted and make sure nothing goes wrong when we ride this w/e. It is supposed to rain for a few days in the middle of this week BTW.

jgos929
10-13-2008, 04:34 PM
New rerasets Nice !!! I looked at the weather and I'm seeing rain on Weds & Thurs. Looks like its bringin a coldfront with it to cause the weatherman is showing low 70's on saturday and sunday. Shoot I might have to get me a jacket before this weekend......

Leadfinger
10-13-2008, 05:28 PM
Thanks. Got some SATO's.

LOL on the jacket. I have been thinking the same thing.

jgos929
10-13-2008, 05:40 PM
SATOs...... I noticed judging from those cans you got. Bet they sound real nice. Sato just alittle to high dollar for my blood but u usually have to pay the price for the best stuff. Oh well.... I need to get me a jacket so this weekend mite just be the motivation I need. I'll keep an eye on the weather and mite head up to moto liberty on Saturday and score one. Buddy of mine was up there the other day to get some gloves and said they had a sale goin. 15% off on everything in the store. Thats pretty good

Leadfinger
10-13-2008, 05:57 PM
Going to Moto Liberty sounds cool. Never been there. Don't even know where it is. I have been wanting to ride with a jacket sometimes anyway for some protection just in case.

The pipes came with the bike. So did the tune and the PCIII. That was part of the reason I went with this one because you are right, they are expensive. It has the Ti hangers also. They are also supposed to put out the most hp so thats cool.

The Sato rears seemed to be the only ones to go with. I saw probs with most of the others. Some even rubbed the swingarm. I would be pissed if that happened. You never know with aftermarket parts. I did not like the price though.

Its right at 635 and 35 off of Royal lane. They got real good deals on alot of there stuff. Since were gonna be hittin the 455 again this weekend I'll probably go ahead and get one cause that road will have you leanin that bike hard and goin down sucks the big one. I need one anyways cause I plan on riding as much as I can until we see some of that 50 and below weather.

Well from the looks of it you got a great deal on the bike.

I had to use a yosh map for my d&d's and man she runs like a top. No popping and the acceleration is smooth and crisp. Since my bike crapped out on me and I lost 12volts to the pcIII I'll probably have to download my map back on it but oh well atleast she's purrin again

Leadfinger
10-14-2008, 01:05 AM
I know 635 and royal. Do they call it something else now? Is that the used bike place?

Anyway.

"Since were gonna be hittin the 455 again this weekend I'll probably go ahead and get one cause that road will have you leanin that bike hard and goin down sucks the big one." This sounds cool. NEver been there either.

Postin at midnight on a Monday??? Damn son I was in bed by 9 last night. That damn career of mine puts me down early.

I forgot I gotta help my little sister move saturday morning and then my mom is having a block party from 2-6. I'll either hit moto liberty after the move or after the block party.

Its still called moto liberty and they don't sell bikes there only gear. I'm gonna steer you right to it. If your coming from little elm I guess you'll be taking the tollway south??? Go 635 west to 35 and go south. After you make the turn to head south on 35 your 1st exit will be Royal Lane. As your coming up to the exit look to your right and you'll see a 2 story building with a bunch of signs on it for different shops. On the top left hand corner of that building you'll see a sign for moto liberty. Exit Royal and take a right, you'll immediately come to a light. Take a right and go to the stop sign. Go through the stop sign and turn right in the 1st entrance and that is the 2 story building. Just pull in and follow it around and its up on the 2nd floor.

Yea, I was up late last night for work. I had to be on India time =(. It was a 20 hour day. They had me on call for an emergency last night before then also.

Thanks for the heads up on moto liberty. I will go check it out this weekend. I need to look at some gear. I hope you did not think I was implying we need to make plans or anything. I wasn't trying to butt in. I know exactly where you are talking about. I thought it might be the place on the north bound side service road. It used to me a dealership and now it is a used bike store and a custom shop next to it, I think.

jgos929

No no no not at all man. Shoot if I wasn't busy I would meet up and roll with ya up there but some things have come up. No worrys though....

10-14-2008, 01:16 PM
Cool. Yea that would be fun. I am going to go online and look at their stuff today. You ride today?

jgos929
10-14-2008, 01:28 PM
No didn't ride today. My buddy has my helmet so his girl could use it and he's bringin it back to me tonight. Looks like rain 2morrow and thursday so I guess I'll just have to piddle around until sunday.

There's a ton of stuff not on the site that they have in the store. I was there a few weeks ago and found a badass icon jacket that I wanted and when I got home I wanted to see if they had some sort of internet deal on it and they didn't have it on the site.

jgos929
10-17-2008, 05:45 PM
Scored me a jacket yesterday. I'll hit you up saturday evening and we'll figure out a place to meet up sunday if you still want to roll. Let me know....

jgos929
10-17-2008, 10:52 PM
No I was lookin online at CycleGear and found a alpinestar that I liked so I stopped by the store after work (its literally within walking distance from my house) and they had it but it was like $50 more. So I asked them if they would match their online prices and he said he would so I picked it up.

I already got some of the boys txtin me to find out whats up for Sunday. I'll hit you up tomorrow and we'll figure out a place to meet.

10-20-2008, 05:58 PM
Yeah them guys wanna stop to much but what can ya do. Next time we'll take 455 all the way to 30. Lots more out that way and its alot smoother. I'm goin to Michigan this weekend so I'll have to miss out on any riding but we'll see if we can hook up for the following weekend. I think i'm gonna go ahead and order me a new set of tires cause my other ones got me feelin sketchy around some of those turns. Maybe I can get the honda man to get my chain dialed in right also.

Leadfinger

I was impressed at how well the RC handled the rough road. Actually all the bikes. I can see that the rock that hit my foot also hit my bike. Cool for touch up paint! Have a good trip while your gone. Maybe that will give me time to get some gear. I should be wearing some for rides like that. I think we can fix your chain if you want. Clean it real good, lube and tighten. We can do it here. Unless your gonna get a new one. Alot of people do the sprocket conversion when they do but you would loose some top end. BTW, did you pass anyone on the big end over the dam? It wouldn't surprise me if you did. Did the busa pull everyone? That sounds good on the tires. I had scuffs pretty close to the edge on mine so I know you were on the edge of yours. One because you were fast and two because those dont have as much of a side surface on the tire as mine. I have the michelins. I am still thinking about that ride. It was too unreal. I wanted a pic so bad when we were all taking up the highway and stringing through those corners. Send me some if Johnny sends the ones he took to you or your friend.

That sucks man, I got rock chips all in mine. I've been lookin at putting on new fairings but those things are damn expensive. Definately need to get the chain fixed. My chain and sprockets are both in good shape so I'll hold off on them for alittle while but a good cleaning and lube would for sure help out. I figure when I get whoever to mount my new tires I'll just have them do my chain also. I kept it kinda conservative over the dam cause of that chain and my tires. I hit about 150 and stayed there. I think Casey on the busa was probably in front during that little run. That busa is FAST!!! We were layin em over, I had some good wear on my tires to. If I could ride like that every weekend my tires would last a hell of alot longer. I think I'm gonna get a set of Shinko's for it. I've read a bunch of reviews and people say their awsome tires for the price. I agree that was a hell of a site. There was like 12 or 14 of us rippin down them roads. I think next time im gonna bring my camcorder and go ahead about a mile and set it up on one of those turns maybe like a ground shot or something, get everyone leanin & rippin around one of those tight turns. Let me know if you want anyone of those guys #'s so if you want to go ride with them this weekend. When I get back we'll get back after it.

Yea, it sucked. I live though. I wasnt surprised though because whatever hit my foot was traveling =). I figure when touch up paint doesn;t fix it anymore, if I just love the bike and never get rid of it, I will paint it black and polish the frame and swingarm like this guys : http://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249. I think that looks good. That would be cool. Cool on the tires. Just fyi, I hear ppl getting the pilots for around 150 rear. I don;t know how much the other are. We were leaning them over. It was so much fun. I was surprised to see scuffs so far out on my tires. I am still thinking about the ride. Thats a good idea on the chain when you get the tires done. That will make it easy. My offer still stands if you want. That is a good idea on the camcorder. That will be cool. If we kept doing that over and over it would probably be worth getting a dash cam or something. I told that guy Mike on the Honda 1000 that hooked up with us to look for you and me on this board. We will see if he shows. He was cool and riding good. Yea, if you want to hook me up with your friends, I will ride with them while you are gone if they go out. The DFW stangs ppl are doing a GTG his weekend also on Sunday over close to your house. If you want to get together some night before you leave, maybe we can ride to a hangout. They do Thursday nights at High Five and I hear it is cool. Babe bikini wash and stuff...

Here is a good link for tire stores online:

http://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147&highlight=tires

I looked at some prices. I am just sitting in training right now ;)

http://www.motorcycleproshop.com 159 for a pilot and 169 for a full race pilot they didn't have the Shinkos

I just realized we are going over the speed rating for these tires =)

I'm back. Trip was good its damn cold in Michigan.....

Got me a new rear tire but I got a kink in my chain and its makin a nasty popin noise right when it rolls off the rear sprocket. If it aint one thing its another so I guess I'm lookin at a new chain an sprocket setup.

Welcome back.

Sorry to hear about the chain. Maybe it can be soaked for a day or two in heavy gear lube and worked in by hand? Then clean it next?

That is good news you got a new tire. I'll be interested to see how it works out.

I rode some this weekend. I am on vacation now. I have been taking care of some things that have been getting put off for awhile.

I don't know man I spent an hour cleaning and scrubbing the chain getting all the gunk out of it yesterday. Then put everything on and lubed it real good and its still doin it.

I went with the Diablo Strada. Its a harder compound so maybe it will last alittle longer. Its definately not as flat as that last tire I had so cornering it should be alot better. I figure I got another 500-1000 miles left on the front. I'll probably go ahead and score me a new sprocket & chain setup in the next week or two. I want to do a 15/41 or 42 setup.

I'm takin my driving test on Thursday morning so I can get my motorcycle license and see if I can get that ticket dismissed. I took the written test and barely passed. That thing is harder than I thought!!!

Get your shit taken care of and hit me up when you get back. Im gonna jack around with this chain and see if I can get it fixed so maybe I can get some miles on that tire this weekend.

Lookin at all that I've decided I need a thorston airbox and maybe some head work.

Leadfinger
11-10-2008, 12:15 PM
yea, I need more sleep. I go to the gym alot at night.

I was thinking the same things about the portwork. You dont see people doing it much so I thought it was interesting.

Look at his polishing. It looks chromed. I was on his site because he has good prices on shocks. You heard of Elka shocks?

I hope you had a good ride yesterday. My trip was fruitful.

jgos929
11-10-2008, 04:53 PM
For $850 that might be worth it.

Elka is good.

I think im gonna put all my suspension settings back to stock tonight and start adjusting to see what happens.

Leadfinger
11-11-2008, 11:12 AM
Thanks for the feedback on the shock. It looks like I can get an Ohlins, Elka, Penske or one other I forgot. The Elka would be valved and sprung for me at a decent price. The quality and feedback I've seen look good. noone really has a complaint about any of them. The differences in the settings that were made on my setup this weekend made such a difference I cannot imagine how nice the ride will be with a new suspension.

Work was crazy for me yesterday so I did not see this. Did you do the adjustments? I'll help you tonight if you haven't. If we had one more person we could do the same process that I did this weekend. The difference was night and day before and after. I had so much more fun going home and I could go fast again. The steering was so sharp on my bike because of the setup the wind was steering the bike big time and beating me to death. We had to turn the preload all the way in to even get close to getting the right sag up front. I would have never done that and it still isn't enough. The springs on my bike barely support the bikes weight up front much less with me on it.

I gotta get a raise cause I don't think any of those shocks are for a decent price. I'm gonna have to make the stockers work for me. I definately could benefit from a rear shock though cause my stocker has 22K on it and I know its worn.

I set everything back to stock according to the service manual last night except for the front & rear spring preload. I need a spanner wrench to turn the back to get it back to the stock location and it was raining hard as hell so I didn't want to dig through my trailer to look for the wrench for the front forks. I was told to turn the front preload clockwise until it stops and then back it off one full turn and that is the stock location, so I'm gonna do that tonight. If it takes 3 of us then I can definately get another person for sure. I think Cory wants to get his set up to cause I think his is way to soft. When you sit on his it sags big time so I know he could benefit from some changes. Judging from the way he was riding on sunday he was all outta whack. He was goin real slow and not feelin very confident. It was weird. Lets do it this weekend.

Yea, I think the price is high also. I could keep riding it the way it is but it could be better. Here is my deal, I have to respring the front. If I am going to go through all the trouble of taking the forks off and going inside them, I might as well valve them too. I do have a little stiction so that will be better also. It appears that the front forks are great on the RC, they just need some tweaking. The rear is a loss. I have to replace the spring on the back also. Instead of spending the 150 - 200 on the old shock, Ill spend it on the new one. I do have a limit though on price. Again, with the limited adjustments that I have made it is so much better, a new setup will be unreal on that bike.

That sucks about Cory. I was in the same boat. The front was so low I could not get that new stand under it. Steering so sharp that when you lean in, it wants to go all the way in, then you jerk it out and it feels like a push. That doesn;t even cover the headshake which would have been severe at speed and the wind. I have had several tank slappers before and they suck!

This weekend will rock like always. I need to pickup a mm tape measure for us. I have a spanner.

I feel ya on all of that. I found a guy with a stock shock thats got about 4K miles on it and he said he would give it to me and all I have to pay for is the shipping to get it here. So I figured what the hell its in better shape than mine and maybe the rebound and dampening on it are alot better. I'll let cory know and see if he wants to hook up sometime this weekend.

When you wanna get together to do the suspension? Cory wants to do his to. I got some stuff goin on Saturday morning but should be done later that day. I think we're gonna try to get a ride in on Sunday. Should be nice mid 60's. Will definately be better if I can get the suspension dialed in. Let me know.

Oh yeah GET A JACKET !!!

I'm hoping my new shock will be here by tomorrow. I would hate to setup the rear and then replace the shock and have to do it again.

I think a couple of people are coming by my place tomorrow so if you wanna swing by we can hang and knock this out.

That sounds good. I'll give you a call tomorrow. If you are anywhere you can get one of those small round tape measures in "mm" that would be good.
