Hey kent , Im new to, and looking to educate myself on this bike befors I start looking for one . Please tell me how do I post a question , cant freekin figure it out . Maybe you can answer my question , whats the difference between a SP1 and a SP2 , I know the SP1 was the first to be made so is the SP2 an upgraded vesion ? any help would be appreciated . THX

The SP1's and '02 SP2 have virtually the same paint scheme and are sometimes mistaken.
Outwardly, the main differences are the SP2 had 5 spoke wheels over the 6-spoke wheels of the SP1 (slightly lighter in weight).
Also the swingarm design is difference on the SP2 and 16mm longer.

Once you get past those points, the differences are all under the skin.
The SP2's have 62mm throttle-bodies vs 54mm of the SP1.
The rear linkage ratio is different, the frame has additional bracing near the headstock, the rake is 1 deg steeper, the steering stem is larger in diameter, subframe is different design along with relocation of the battery and ECU.
The forks are shorter and thicker for more stiffness, the brake rotors are .5mm thicker, the engine hangers are forged vs cast, two fans vs one, and so on...

Here's the list of differences for '02 and up.

Just remember that for street use, either variant is a equally fine.
