I was thinking more on the line of moving to South Padre and opening a scooter shop for the summer months and then spend the off season in Austin once the new track is open LOL

Time slips by so fast and it is still somewhat difficult to fathom the attacks of 9/11/2001.

I don't want this thread to die because I truly respect and support our troops. Thanks yet again for keeping the barbarians away from our country.

I raise my glass to All Heros....God Bless.

I watched Tom Brokaw last nite do a 10 year commeration. It was so moving. I'm telling you I couldn't stop welling up. All the people and the families that were affected. It's really mind boggling the kind of impact that attack had.
If nothing else, this country is resilient!
I also join madbuyer in thanking all who serve this great country, in the military and civil services.
And to all those who parished, and all the rescue workers 10 years ago, God bless.

You should thank veterans by contacting your elected officials. Write letters about issues that effect many veterans today, like lack of benefits, tons of BS red tape, extraordinarily long wait times for the filing of claims, and lack of proper care for those returning with wounds from war (both mental and physical). Ask questions like "why were veterans benefits and military pay the first things suggested to be on the chopping block when the budget wasn't passed? Why were they even there at all?", "Why are we still in Iraq? Why were we there at all?"

Do some research and you will find something that you feel is wrong and should be changed. Find a cause you can believe in and work for it. Thousands of Americans have fought and died for the rights you have in our democratic society, don't waste them.

As for me personally, I have nothing that needs thanking for. I enlisted, I proudly served my country, I saw some of cool places, met a lot of great people and met my wife. The whole time your taxes (and mine) paid me well. Now your taxes are putting me through college. All told it will be close to $100,000 in benefits from the VA alone when I graduate in december. If anything, thank you. Or just complete the above request and we can call it even.

I have family that served in Desert Storm 1 and he has the same story. As for the Jungle of Animals we have in Congress, I do my part and have voted in every election.

I am proud to say the people who represent (The people I voted for.) me were not the ones who dreamed up the idea of cutting military pay and benefits. Obamanation is killing America and I intend to do my part to correct this. The constant scare tactics don't work anymore on the educated public.

You served and still took a part of your life to defend our country, and for that Sir, you have my gratitude. Whatever you are able to get back for your personal gain is worth every penny. (Although, I'd like to think my money went directly to the B2 Bomber, thats one bad machine.;) )

Of the six years I served in the Navy, 4.5 were spent at sea, and of that, cumulatively almost 3 years were spent under the surface waiting for the call to throw mankind back to the stone age while avoiding detection by the Soviets, Chinese, or N. Koreans while patrolling near their borders.

I have also served with those that served over 20 years in the Navy, with more than 10 years spent underwater.

The members of Congress are elected to represent The People (as Jefferson phrased us) to act on our behalf as stewards in the best interest of this nation.

It does not matter what party or affiliation they are member to.
Once elected, their only concern is the well-being of this country and its citizens.

They should show the same commitment to duty, honor, courage, and sacrifice as the soldier, sailor, and airman currently serving to protect and guard this nation.

Respect and honor is earned, never given or coerced.
And on this, they are dishonoring us all and deserve to be replaced by those who will.

I have no patience or sympathy for those in political office that sacrifice their ethics, morals, and well-being of this Nation to further their political agenda or fatten their wallets.

Those should be publicly flogged.

Well said. In my five and a half years in, I honestly lucked out and only had about two and a half at sea on aircraft carriers.
