: clutch fluid
WarpSpeed 01-31-2012, 11:21 AM so i need to change my clutch fluid but i have never done it. i have done the brakes myself so im sure its just as easy. the question i have is that the res cap says dot4 brake fluid? is that right? you use brake fluid for clutch as well as brakes?
jondog9 01-31-2012, 11:52 AM Yes!!!
I use DOT4 synthetic.
How do I know? Cause I used the wrong shizit the first time and destroyed my o-rings and resevior cap diaphram. No biggie on replacing them, propably should anyway if you got more than 20K on the bike.
How many miles on the bike, and how many of those miles have you put on? Maybe time to replace the important cup/seals and o-rings on your clutch master and slave? It's not expensive at all.

COBRA90GT 01-31-2012, 02:59 PM A timely topic, this is on my "to-do" list. ^ Planned on picking up a few bottles of that Motul over at SportbikeTrackGear sometime for the clutch and brakes...
WarpSpeed 01-31-2012, 03:04 PM Just changed front pads and fluid with galfer dot4 so I still have some left that I plan on using

I need to get into the brake fluid business, that dude is charging $29 after tax for HALF of a damn liter? Much cheaper on amazon btw, about $18 shipped.
On the recommendations of a few friends, I might switch to ate superblue. It's blue, so that means it is better.

I simply asked if you remembered him. That's innocent enough, right? :D :D
I knew you'd get that Mb. ;) Whose the little guy to the right of Mumm-ra? I like him :)
SubSailor, I see what you mean, just throw a blue hood over Carville and presto-wella!
Getting back on track here, Miller's got it right about the blue stuff; it's gotta be better  :D I know he was being sarcastic... That's how I destroyed my cup/seals and resevior diaphram.[/SIZE] I used sprecto brake fluid. It's blue. Gotta be better right? Except that it's not DOT4. Turned out to be a mineral oil type brake fluid.

Had a similar issue over a year ago. Changed mine (it was like syrup!) with the stock Autozone DOT 3 - 4 fluid. It's cheap enough to flush out the system and then get rid of the opened excess (fluid is hydroscopic).
$22 dollars? Really? for a product that has to meet the minimum viscosity and chemical standards for brake fluid. Seems a bit too Gucci to me.
