: Turn One CF Intake & Airbox
mr305 05-27-2009, 10:36 AM Has anyone had any experience with the Turn One CF intake snorkle and Airbox? I installed one on my '02 model last winter and am really pleased with it. The quality of the components, the fit and the instructions were first rate. The aircleaner that was supplied was probably sufficient for a racing application, but I fabricated one with a K&N element that works great. I'm also running a pair of the longer intake bells with it to try to pick up the mid range.. The seat of the pants dyno says it's stronger in the mid range, but I haven't been able to get to a track day yet, so I really don't know if it has bought me much or not. I'd be interested to here from anyone else who has tried this.
jgos929 05-27-2009, 11:25 AM I just got them for mine and it definitly feels different thats for sure. The only way to take complete advantage of it is to get it custom mapped. Then you'll really notice the difference.
mr305 05-29-2009, 09:28 AM jgos929
I have a custom map for the Jadine exhaust that seems to work well. I'm an an old school tuner and take plug readings and the new intake has not affected the plug readings noticably. How did you mount the Tach/Speedo? I didn't like how the C/F angles positioned it on my example, so I fabricated a new bracket from aluminum and mounted it to the top of the intake snorkle. I also made brackets from aluminum extrusion to hold the grommets that pick up the pins on the headlight buckets and mounted them on either side of the snorkle.
jgos929 05-29-2009, 10:37 AM Go here and you can see my 2:1 http://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=722
I'm running a gp can with it though.
When did you get your snorkle? Turnone is now producing a new one that has moved the tach/speedo mount because of complaints that it didn't look right before. I just mounted mine up on the new snorkle and it looks fine.
mr305 05-29-2009, 11:44 AM I got mine back in late November or early December. I talked to Brent at Turn One about the problem with the mounts and he indicated he was going to make a change because I wasn't the only one who had a problem. I'll try to post some pictures of my instalation next week. I've got a really clean setup.
jgos929 05-29-2009, 12:33 PM Yeah thats what I thought. It sounded like you might have gotten one of the older ones. I've only had mine for little over a month. I need to get mine custom mapped because I just can't seem to find a map that feels right. And all of the 2:1 maps I've been able to find are for SP2's and I have a 1. Right now I'm running the map off the pc website for the german model sp1 and the bike runs good but there is still some popping on decel. I haven't checked my plugs in a couple of thousand miles and was going to do it the next time I changed the oil in the next week or so.

mighty max 07-29-2009, 10:57 AM I have 3 emailed to Bret from turnone, so far no reply from him..
Scott sellin at $345usd but bret sellin $325..
Defender 07-29-2009, 11:20 AM Scott told me about a week ago that Turn One was shut down for vacation for a few weeks. I ordered my stuff from Scott. My order should ship out today.
mighty max 07-29-2009, 11:24 AM Bro, what did u order?..did scott give any special discount?..
Defender 07-29-2009, 11:39 AM I ordered the Turn One CF airbox and intake, the LED eyebrow kit, Kyle Racing adjustable clip-ons and Delrin bar ends, and a Factory Pro shift kit. You can talk with him one on one about discounts. That's his business and I don't feel right saying anything about it.
jgos929 07-29-2009, 02:03 PM +1 on TurnOne being on vacation. Your best bet is gonna be Scott.
mighty max 07-30-2009, 08:52 AM Yup, he jz emailed to me that he will be back on the 25 August. Currently, he's at Vietnam & will be transiting to Singapore on his way back to Australia..hoping he can give a better price & the shipping is cheaper..
mighty max 08-07-2009, 09:43 AM Ok, i have ordered from Scott Turnone Carbon Airbox & turnone snorkel, Soft rev & Hyflex plates....So what the different when u used the turnone airbox & snorkel?
Power gain?
jgos929 08-07-2009, 10:09 AM You will definitely feel a difference after you get the box & snorkel installed. You need to get it tuned though because the volume of the air is so much greater now it will take custom tuning to get it all inline. Good Luck and good purchase
mighty max 08-07-2009, 10:22 AM Tks, for the info
The 'Burnian 10-13-2009, 06:27 AM Digging up this old post, does Turn One have a dedicated website/email address? And does anyone know where they're actually located? My searches, both on here and in general, have proved somewhat frustrating. The only good lead was the Scott linky (thankyou), but I'd like to read/research more straight from the source if poss'.
SubSailor 10-13-2009, 08:38 PM If he does, I haven't found it yet.
I figured it would be easier for you since he's in your back yard, globally speaking.
The 'Burnian 10-14-2009, 02:14 AM I've only just discovered that he's here in Oz(apparently!). I have no idea how to get hold of him, nor what he trades as. It's a bit frustrating!

Well im very disappointing with SCottsms...
I ordered all product from turnone(intake, airbox & radiator scoop), slipper clutch, dan kyle link, factory pro shift kit, soft rev mode & i circuit case cover..i oredered from him ard early August paid nearly 70% on my credit card...& now he said that he cant shipped out USA...
But i managed to email to Brett & luckly he have the parts on his hand...
5.4 speedster 10-14-2009, 12:30 PM thats shady
The 'Burnian 10-14-2009, 03:32 PM Mighty Max, could I ask that you might PM me Brett's email address? Actually, would the mods please clarify if it's ok to post up a suppliers email address or not? It seems Brett/Turn One has what people want, but if someone's service is lacking, we may go elsewhere for our needs. For all of the hassle, I'm wondering if Thorsten is worth looking into. Thoughts, all?
jgos929 10-14-2009, 03:54 PM Thorsten is good if you want to pay more for the exact same thing
The 'Burnian 10-14-2009, 09:35 PM Thorsten is good if you want to pay more for the exact same thing
Thanks; I thought as much. We've got another local carbonfibre supplier that does the same parts, but everyone seems content with Turn One's work that I'm happy to look further into their stuff...if I can find it!
SubSailor 10-14-2009, 10:02 PM In case anyone was interested, I received my snorkel and airbox today and weighed both.
The snorkel assembly weighs 392 gm, while the airbox assembly weighs 702 gm.
For a total of 1094 gm or 2.41 lbs.

greyhound 10-16-2009, 09:59 AM what kind of performance gains did you guys notice with this mod?
It is minimal without any engine work.
jgos929 10-16-2009, 10:58 AM It is minimal without any engine work.
Thats completely false. Its minimal without tuning. There are guys that have made gains of 8+ hp at the wheels with just a tune and the box/snorkle.
There is nothing minimal about that.
5.4 speedster 10-16-2009, 11:41 AM that is good power. is it only noticeable on the top end?
jgos929 10-16-2009, 02:21 PM No you'll notice the difference over the whole rpm range

No air filter is this track setup? What about using air filters (street setup)? Anyone have pics of that?
SubSailor 10-16-2009, 04:43 PM The air filter will be held by the blue mesh at the front of the airbox.
It's just in place yet during installation.

Whatever you say...it's minimal to me. And it is custom mapped by a tuner that knows what he is doing.

Well I figure 85% of the people running an aftermarket box & snorkle don't have any engine work done and dont plan on doing it. All of them have reported good gains.
Im not sure what your definition of minimal is but it sounds like you didn't gain anything and if thats the case then your tuner has no idea what he's doing.
Just to break the argument for a minute I see your in TX where at?

In the Dallas area.
jgos929 10-17-2009, 08:54 AM Im in Plano. Just wondering cause it seems like just about every 51 is located up north.

I'm just north of Plano in McKinney.
jgos929 10-18-2009, 08:41 PM Well im fixin to get rid of the 51 but we should go on a ride sometime. Me and some friends are always up there ridin 697 & 69.

who's bell's are U using? --- i'm using the stock rear longer one on the front cylinder intake --- and could U kick down that map that U are using:D

I bought a sheet of the Uni Filter red foam filter media and cut it to fit. The gauze type material supplied did not look like it would last very long. You can get 2 or 3 filters out of a single sheet for about $15.

Mrgrn 02-06-2010, 03:36 PM hey guys.. anyone have contact info? Id like to look into getting one of these..
try thorsten who actually invented the airbox
Mrgrn 02-06-2010, 03:43 PM Thorsten is good if you want to pay more for the exact same thing
or, if thorsten had not spent his time and money to fab it first then Brett would have nothing to steal and copy.
I am all for copying a product and for saving money but talking down the innovator of a product and then talking up a copier are not realistic IMO
fishfire 02-07-2010, 04:16 AM Yes its a copy, and Brett has never denied this. In his own words, he has said if he developed this air box, it would have been exactly the same!
Why should you feel obliged to buy this airbox from the original designer, when someone else has produced the exact same item for less? Im all for saving pennies where you can!
Anyway, Brett can be contacted here:
turnone@iprimus.com.au
5.4 speedster 02-07-2010, 01:10 PM ^couldnt agree more
sr2-e 02-08-2010, 12:43 PM The decisive is, this anyway it works.
This air box can almost always look only same.
Das Entscheidende ist doch, das es funktioniert.
Diese Airbox kann fast immer nur gleich aussehen.
