Yet another potential buyer's inquiry post...

Hello all,

I've been riding now for a little over five years. In that time I've owned cruisers, sport tourers, and super sports (only 600's though). Currently, I'm on a 2000 V Star 650 which I purchased as a temporary solution while my 350Z was in the shop. Well, the car totaled and I don't like the V Star enough to keep it. It's a fantastic little cruiser, just not my preferred riding style. I've got a line on a 2005 RC51 at a (somewhat) local dealership but I'm a little out of my element with these bikes as far as haggling. The bike has ~16k miles and a sato exhaust, and they are asking $7,495 for it. I know that is too high, but I'm not sure what the true value of the bike is. If anyone could help me figure out a more reasonable price, I'd appreciate it. I've looked through nadaguides.com but don't know how well that relates to a semi-rare bike like the RC51.

Thanks in advance,

Dylan~

Mine is a 2003 I paid $4700 for with 4700 mile bone stock. To me, accessories are nice, but not really what I look for.

And before you ask, there are relatively no issues with these bikes.

Thanks for the replies guys. The bike does appear to be in great condition, but this particular dealership doesn't allow test rides - which is a minor issue (Even the local Ducati dealership let me test ride their 1098 R). But I've purchased bikes from them in the past and never had a problem. And the prices you listed are more along the lines of what I figured the bike to be worth. That gives me a good starting off point for negotiations. And madbuyer, I wasn't going to ask about reliability concerns; I used the often-neglected search button for that information already

Hard to find a mint 05' RC51 for under $7K in Cali. Usually, they have lots of mileage.

Hey,

Just for a point of reference, I picked up my 06 with 7k on it last month for 6k. They wanted 7999! It has a two brothers exhaust on it and new dunlops. Happy hunting.

Ain't that the truth! Private market is the only way to go in most cases. I think an 05 with 16k and sato exhaust, (I'm assuming 1 or 2 more minor upgrades you may not have mentioned, and clean) would sell for about $5000-5500 here in Northern CA. People may ask more, but that's probably pretty close for a private party sale.
