First Ride Today

Go to find a job that pays and I don't have to show up...

Bought my 2000 RC51 (32K miles) in expected shape. Some kid owned in 2nd hand and it had some questionable electrical work done on it.

By the time I got the title and insurance worked out I was up to my neck in a new job.

6 months later, electrical straight, new fairings arrived (not installed yet) and a dozen new little pieces I'm taking it out for it's first flight.

I'll let you know how it worked out.

First ride was great!

It wasn't raining when I started, but by the time I got to the corner, it started and pretty much came down steady for the rest of the ride.

The RC51 is a beast!. Extremely torquey with a tendency to want to just leap out ahead with very little throttle. Took a bit to get the feel of the clutch engagement point with respect to RPM; I think the clutch lever needs to be adjusted for my reach.

Sunday is a good time to find empty parking lots. After a few laps, I took it to a local elementary school and did some low speed drills. Found the best position to ride was right up against/over the tank, but the clip-ons appear to be too close in; my hands tended to keep hitting the sides of the tank.

Handling and stopping in the rain was pretty solid. Suspension was very stiff in the rear, but I suspect that is a combination of a lot of things, lest of which is my 170 lbs ass.

Took the bike up and around to a short expressway. Speed is deceptive; I didn't even get out of 2nd gear and I was already over 70 mph. Sneaks up on you.

Came back soaked with a big smile on my face. Looking forward for the next ride. In the meantime I have a few adjustments to make.

... looking forward to the next ride

nice, glad to hear your happy with it. Clutch engagement is a bit further then other bikes i've ridden. got some crg levers and brought them in closer but not much difference. just the way it is, youll get used to it pretty quick.
