Took off my modified undertail today & took some pics.

So some of you have asked about my undertail. It was modified by the previous (1st) owner.

Today Carlos & I took mine off, so he could see how it's fixed on, take measurements and look at how to make improvements whilst designing a mold for a new & improved carbon under tail.

I think the tail-light may be from a 954 blade, not sure. The previous owner said it was from a CBR, that was the only info he gave...

Figured if anybody here wants to make their own from a standard under tail these pictures may come in useful. Might be difficult to bend aluminium like this without specialist machinery though?

The rearmost part of the tail seems to have also been trimmed.

Looking forward to seeing what can be molded in carbon fibre for use with an integrated tail light of similar design as the 2 round light designs currently available seem a bit too much like R1 style in design. Are they strong? We're guessing they don't have fittings for relays, etc. either...

Does anybody know if the undertail on an SP2 is same as on an SP1?

Yes the rear part of that tail is trimmed. Who ever did the work did a pretty god job in all my honesty.
Looks good.
I own the Bestem Undertail..... required some fiddling to get it right....but this is always involved in custom aftermarket parts for the most part anyways.
I like the two round lights style myself. I am looking for a nice race tail to start my own suzuka 8 hr replica, with the HRC style lights and all. Mondial seems to ignore all my questions regarding it.
The bestem tail has no mounting points for the relays at all... no support for the battery either, would be nice to have these issues addressed with proper mounting points and a proper battery tray molded in as well.
Two versions perhaps ?? Round lights and a single light version, I can mail you guys my modified Bestem tail to make molds of ??

The sp1 undertray is different from sp2 (the stock piece). You can see how I trimmed a sp1 undertail to fit a sp2. https://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8435

I haven't tried it but an sp2 undertail may fit an sp1.

Took off my modified undertail today & took some pics.

I had a bestem undertail on my bike originally. That thing was the worst fitting pile of crap. I ripped it off my bike and threw it in the trash. I have since replaced it with a hotbodies. Way better fit, just wish the LEDs were a bit brighter.

The only different thing on undertails for sp1 to sp2 is the cutout for the ECU jump that is present on the sp2. An undertail shouldn't remove any of the mounting points for relays, if the fender is cut correctly to leave the rearmost mounting points intact. At least on an sp2 that is the case, not sure on the sp1. The stock rear fenders are very different.

When I made my undertail, I moved the ECU and had a completely flat undertail.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I guessed that the SP1 & SP2 undertails would probably be different, as after all the seat frames are different too and the ECU on the SP2 mounts in a recess.
kwtoxman - your pictures on your thread aren't working, buddy.

It may be Carlos ends up making an undertail only for an SP2 at first. Later that could be changed to fit SP1. Unless someone wants to send us an SP1 undertail to work out the differences and see if they can be integrated into one design?

Duckhunter thanks for the offer. I'm sure Carlos will read this thread, but I don't think he wants to make a mold from a soft shell, as that will tend to lead to deforming / wavyness in the finished product.

Was thinking today, it may be a good idea to include a rubber edge trim around the carbon, otherwise from vibration it'll scratch against the tailpiece's plastic over time.

There's lots to think about. Will use mine as a model and see where improvements can be made before he makes his design I think.

Meanwhile, my RC51 is now unridable, but no pain - no gain as they say.

Yep, I used te guts of one on my setup posted above. Wasn't quite bright enough for my liking when using the tinted lexan. I would recommend using clear if anyone copies me:

I wound up cutting a hole in the lexan and mounting another cbr tail light there with hot glue. Much brighter, but extremely hard to get the angle of the light correct. The angle of the RC tail isn't steep enough.
