I may owe my bike an apology....

So ever after buying my 51, I have talked a lot of trash about how slow the bike is, and how it refuses to wheelie, and how it's slower than a mail truck etc...

Well...

This last weekend I replaced the plugs and air filters just for good measure. the filters were a bit dirty but not crazy, and the plugs looked OK. The bike has 18,000 miles.

Last night was the first time I really took it out for a ride, and WOW what a difference!! Sounds different, you can feel the individual pulses of teh engine much stronger, and not only is it quicker, but was lifting the wheel everywhere... The improvement in the mid range is awesome. Still by no means a modern liter bike, but it's now what I expected it to be.

So I feel like I owe it an apology. Just needed some TLC, and is now so much happier.

Whatever I lack in HP I make up for in just plain ol' crazy!!

Hmmm...glad you sorted it out. Now you need a set of Sato mids to go with the cans.

That I do. For now I'm going to see if I can make it work with the Jardine mids. We shall see how that goes...

And I'm gonna have to cut the cans down as the right one was FUBAR'd at some point. I will cut as little as I can get away with, but I can't put that rash on my bike... So I'll re-pack them and replace the end bands at the same time. I love a project...

Did you get a chance to try the 42T sprocket?

I do have it on the bike. I swapped to a 190/55 rear tire about a week before I put on the sprocket, and could feel the difference, but was going on a 750 mile weekend trip so wanted the taller gearing. After getting home and swapping to the 42t sprocket it feels right about the same as it did before the tire. So now I get the handling advantage of the taller tire without losing in the gearing dept. And with the new found power, I may be happy with the gears. I'll test it out on a ride this weekend and see what I think.
