Buying an RC ... rusty gas tank?

My friend has a '95 Suzuki GS500 that's been sitting in his garage for quite a few years. He recently found that the gas tank had rusted so bad inside that it actually had a hole in it, and he found that out because the new gas he added poured right out onto the garage floor.

How can I tell when looking at used RC's if the inside of the tank might have any rust from sitting?

Last time I owned a bike, late 90's, non-ethanol was the only fuel available around here - now ethanol is all we have.

Completely full with a dryer agent. Some gas stations serve up some bullshit gas, so be careful. I try to only use Shell or BP when storing.
