Bike dies while in traffic.

I have an 01 rc51. I've had it a few months and it has ran great. Last week I rode it into work. On they way home hot some traffic. Temp was about 180, when I got traffic came to a stop and temp
Road rapidly to 220. Fan kicked on and cooled off. Had some stop and go driving then bike just shut off. Temp was right around 220 And felt like it may have died when fan kicked on.

I let it sit for a bit then it started right up and I made it home. I added a bit of radiator fluid it was low. On the next ride I hit just a brief stretch of stop and go
Traffic, only about 5 minutes worth. I got into the city and stopped at a couple red lights, temp was about 220 and it died on me at a red light. Started up fine then died again at next light.

It's got a power commander and it shows lean, I've never adjusted it.

Any ideas on what I should do??

Check all electrical connections, especially the main ground to the frame and the battery terminals.

I am curious on how you know the PC read lean?

Might check your charging system. Let it get to 220 on the side stand and see what the voltage is before and after the fan starts.

check the power commander connections, make sure they are good and clean. What map are you running? custom tune?

Is the power shutting off as well? or just the motor stopping?

The power commander has a little bar graph display and it is lit up to where it says lean. I don't know what map,,, bought the bike recently. I guess I should read up on the pc and figure out how to work it.. Power stayed on when died..

Didn't have a lot of time to check but still rode it into work, thought I would not hit traffic in Sunday. Sure enough I did and it was almost 100. Ran fine till hit traffic. Heated up
Quick, hit 220 deg then died. I Let it cool then tried to start. Would not. Ended up having to get tow truck home.

Fl light came on, how do I read the codes.. And does my dumb idea to ride again before troubleshooting give any more pointers???

Thanks all

Do you smell gas at all?

Yes, read up on the PC operation.

Disconnect the PC and run it....What kind of exhaust are you running?

I'd take the ower commander off as requested, but then you also need to check the system voltage while the bike is running before and after the fan tries to kick on. I'd also chck the fuse to make sure it is the correct one in there and that someone hasn't replaced the normal fuse with a higher amp one.

I'm really curious though because even a bike running on just the battery should not die when the fan kicks on, unless the battery is running like 10 volts. (check the voltage drop while starting as well, as the battery shouldn't drop that much)

Got home from work and thought I would try to start it, it fired right up. Had no time to work on it, hopefully will soon. When it did die the other day the fan would still run, engine just wouldn't start. I will follow some of your suggestions and hopefully figure it out. Seems to me something is going wrong with it when it hears up when stuck in traffic. Can someone send me a pic of the wires I need to jump to see the fl codes

Thanks
