Fast appraching new era...

Interesting development in the non combustion side of things.

Here is a video of it in action.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=nztLjEs_2Kw

I have watched the small film " Charge " as well which is a feature on electric bikes doing time trials at the IOM, Electric bikes are fast becoming reality.

Watching the progress of it over the years has been fun to see.

Eye opening performance potential aside, electric vehicles aren't really as green as touted. Fossil fuel, coal or nuclear power producing electricity end up being less efficient in producing drive for this bike compared to say a petrol engine. The only sources of energy that may be considered less polluting are of course Solar, Hydro & Wind power, but they're not widespread enough. Also consideration needs to be placed on the production of the hardware needed for say a home solar power system and the batteries, etc. needed for a bike like this. Also life expectancy of the batteries is an unknown quantity. For Nissan's leaf, they sell the car but lease the battery and you have to return it and replace with another from time to time...

The other thing that would put me off in the real world would be how silent an electric bike is. Few text-fingering drivers, etc. would hear you coming at the speeds these electric bikes are evidently capable of and they're not really built for economy. They're for performance, but with hidden costs I suspect. Would take a brave person to stump up nearly $40,000 for a bike that will quickly become outdated as development continues...

On a racetrack it makes a lot of sense. In the real world? Probably less realistic than driving a Tesla. All IMHO of course.

Hush yo mouth, right-leaning conservative!

Our friends to the left don't understand, and thus don't wanna hear about, 'inefficiencies' in power conversion. In other words, "Don't bother me with the details. Just make it happen."

These will be the same people that think a desktop computer plugged in to a UPS is miraculously running for free.

Soon they'll be parked in the 5000 sq ft garages beside the Prious's on the 10,000sq ft mansions in Beverly Hills. All in beaming air conditioned comfort of the movie stars and moguls that flaunt their green attitudes. Meh

As to the reality of the performance capabilities, absolutely. Are they feasable, absolutely not. Will they save the planet, no. Will they ever be affordable, no. Again, meh.

But they ARE interesting.

Duct tape can't fix stupid...but it sure helps muffle the sound

During the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, the electric bikes had warning alarms similar to a commercial vehicle's backup warning alarm.

Of course, that got old quick when watching the video of them racing.
Like listening to a garbage truck backing up all the way to the top.

They should just design some kind of air duct that whistles like the whoo whoo dude in Oakland if you ever recall his news clip

That's a great idea!

There are ways to make air ducts that create other sounds through air flow. For example, could turn a fan, which in turn causes a sound to be made... not ideal, but the "Wauuuga!" sound from an antique car horn works through this principle using something tapping / pushing on a clicking diaphragm... These electric bike manufacturers should work on that. Maybe switchable so you could sneak up on people, then all of a sudden let them know you're there!

Meh, those are for the Al Gore loving, granola munching, tree hugging, short sighted libtards.

But really, they are cool and have raced them at Indy during the GP weekend.
