Throttle free play

The throttle on my RC has about 10 - 15 degrees of freeplay when closed. Meaning the grip can be turned about 10 -15 degrees when the bike sits at idle. This is annoying to me, and I have checked lots of bikes when at different stores, some bikes have a nice tight throttle grip, others have a bit of play in them. I've checked both new and used bikes, there seems to be about a 50/50 mix of tight and loose throttles. Is this normal, is there an adjustment I can make to eliminate this free play or is there a reason it is supposed to be there?

Simple adjustment of the cables will fix it. Most bikes that I have bought have been loose exactly as you describe, even ones right off the showroom floor will be like this. It's always the first thing I fix.

You can take up the slack by adjusting the cables right near the throttle. Just follow the lines... Leave a tiny bit of play and test when turning the handlebars that you don'd add too much (With the engine on), but any play is just wasted movement. Same goes for brakes & clutch.

There are also threaded adjusters and jams nuts at the cable ends where the attach to the throttle bodies.
