Unhappy Stupid Cages!

Was finishing a group ride, taking it easy at the tail end and an older woman in a mid sized SUV cut across my lane and wiped me out... I was wearing my gear, so I'm alright, just a broken bone in my thumb and a banged up knee and ankle. Sucks because I was just getting into working on my bike and getting it fixed up the way I wanted it not this crap happens.

I'm hoping insurance takes care of it, but because I was on a sportbike, the officer initially tried to point the blame at myself being in the wrong lane. Skid marks of my bike show I was in the correct lane of the rotary and the woman plowed through my lane. So frustrating but glad I wasn't hurt worse than I was.

My poor bike is going to need some extra TLC.

People that have been in a crash or dealt with crashed bikes, what do I need to look for/inspect etc to see if it is fixable or non fixable. It was fairly slow speed but just need to be sure. My rear sets are messed up, mirrors, possible radiator/hose/coolant tank (or a combo of each), and fairings from what I can identify on my own need to be fixed.

I actually hopped on after the all was said and done and rode it home in 2nd gear about 3 miles away. These bikes are tanks, but just want to make sure my tank isn't toast. Any help would be greatly appreciated by myself and my injured bike.

That sucks!!!!
Hope you get it all taken care of!
TAKE PICTURES!!!!
If you have before pictures, that helps a lot too.

When I was getting my claim done, they tried to tell me a lot of the stuff was prior damage.
Pictures and a good record proved them wrong.

Really hope it all works out for you.

Riding is what keeps you on your toes...

Glad you're relatively OK. Is a "rotary" the same thing as a roundabout btw?

Just be prepared... I had someone pull out of a side street onto a 4 lane main road..... Clearly not my fault but took 6 years and a long drawn out court battle to prove my NOT AT FAULT cause I was on a sport bike......Glad your ok!!!! I now have a titanium rod holding my leg together.

Cobra, yea rotary/roundabout are the same. Inside lanes are marked to go around the roatary, outter lanes are for exiting.

Thaddeus, thats what I have my gf for

To all, thanks a lot for the comments and all. I have a friend I am going to buy a new motor from and drop it in as long at the bike is good to go and still road worthy (frame and engine mounts etc)

I know I shouldn't but I can't help but think "if only I had gone the other way home"... Hopefully the thumb and knee heal up pretty quick. Lot of swelling on my knee so I cant really bend it much (limping around like captain hook over here)...

Glad you're ok. It's for this precise reason I'm treating myself to a GoPro for Father's Day. Having all this stuff on video will help. Well, as long as they don't see the parts where I'm behaving rather bad.
