Red face First Ride Jitters

Ok gents,
Just wanted to share my thoughts about the ride I took this past Sunday. This was my first time to ride with a somewhat organized group since I bought the F Bomb.

The ride was to begin at 9:45 am, so I arrived earlier then imagined at 9:05am.....and of course nobody was there. I went into the convenience store next door and got a cup of coffee and a honey bun and was resigned to waiting for the rest of the group. Why I got hot coffee when it was already 80 degrees and climbing escapes me....but I digress

Guys started showing up about 9:20 thru 10:00....all Buells.....15 of them, and one of me. I was out numbered and the Indians were open for business ! The Buell 1125's are really neat looking bikes, but just not my style. If I want to ride a Harley then I will ride a Harley !

Finally at 10:45am the organizer decides it is time to cinch up and ride....so I turn the key and press the start button. She roared to life immediately and all heads turned as if to say WTF !!

That's right boys....this is not your buddy's I-4 !

The guy parked next to me came over and asked me what I was riding, said he thought it was ZX12 or a Blackbird....told him nope...RC51...last of the Sexy Fat Chick bikes....I explained IMO, the RC51 is the Anna Nicole Smith of the V2's ....a little big in some places, but you know you wanna ride her !

Once we got out on the road, I stayed to the back of the pack for a couple of reasons -
1. I had no clue where Cranfill's Gap Texas was
2. I had never ridden with these guys
3. I had never been on a run like this with my bike. My riding has been mainly commuting to work and a bit of the around town

As the 1125's would go and jump out on the highway, I stayed right with them and my jitters began to go away.

I have heard you guys say so many times how the 51 was built for curves, and now I see exactly what you mean. It was almost like the bike new the curve was coming and could not wait to sink teeth / tread into it. A couple of times she dove a bit harder then expected, but she never faltered !

Somehow during the ride I found myself in 3rd position behind the (2) leaders, which was mainly due to Fuel / Potty / Gatorade stops. When we hit the twisty's the bike matched them turn for turn and I actually found myself smiling under my helmet. No quite a little kids Kool Aid smile...ok fine...it WAS and still is a Kool Aid smile. I knew that they were not going to run off and leave me, and that my 51 was doing exactly what she was designed to do.

So for all of you guys that have given me advice...thanks !! I really appreciate each one of you ! I doubt I will ever turn into a Track Monster, but knowing that I can drop in here and get tips and tricks means a lot

Gotta get a larger air box / snorkel next....something tells me that the next ride the temps will be well into the 100's and breathing will be a bigger factor

2001 SP1 - Code Name F-Bomb - PCIII USB / D&D High Mount System / 42T / EK SRX 530X / CRG Levers / K&N Filters / Stomp Grip / Rev Limiter Mod / Flapper Mod / PAIR Mod / Undertail / Hugger / 6K HID Lights / Speigler lines / Wave Rotors / CF Airbox / Shorai Battery - More to come, as soon as my slush fund get's more "Slushy" !

Glad you enjoyed your ride. It is nice to know that I am not the only one that gets a smile on my face every time I ride my 51. Even after having it for many years it still makes me grin from ear to ear every time I take her out.
