Technical Camshaft Question

Will the camshafts from a 05 sp2 work in a 02 sp2 ? I have both and they don't measure the same at the lobes.

They should be identical and interchangeable.
There may be a slight variance, but they should both be within the same specs.
What is the difference?

For the intake cam, the lobe height should be: 39.180mm to 39.340mm
For the exhaust cam, the lobe height should be: 38.730mm to 38.890mm

If the intake lobe height is less than 38.880mm, or the exhaust cam lobe height is less than 38.430mm, that cam is shot and should be replaced.

Thanks for the spec. on that sub. On a quick check they are right. I'll post the numbers later. I thought they were interchageable. I was thinking honda would have them ground to perfection, but nothing is ever perfect. A thousanth of a mm. is a very small thing.

Well Sub, the two sets are almost the same with only .001 in. as the biggest difference between the new and the old of the rear Cams. The new exhaust lobes have a difference of .001 in. between left and right as well. That's not much. Both are within spec. This will be my first attempt at setting valves that use shims as well. So wish me luck. Thanks again for the info.

It's no big deal.

It'll be a bigger PITA when I have to check/replace the shims on my FZ1.
It's got 20 shims, and I have remove the radiator to get to the head.
Fortunately, that's only every 26,600 miles.
