My RC51's getting a long lost stable mate back.

A few weeks ago our company was contracted to bring a special car from the UK to Japan in a 20ft container. This meant there should be enough space for a bike to fit inside too, on a metal pallet.
So my buddy in UK is preparing my old but fondly remembered (I've had it since it was nearly new!) VFR750 FL.
It will be making the trip to Japan for free - and finally be used again after having been stored away for almost 13 years!

Was a great all round bike (It's got nice mods like Maxton suspension, 6 piston Harrison calipers, carbon bits, etc) that I've missed.
Despite 71,000 miles on the clock (Nothing for a VFR!) it's still in mint condition and I'm looking forward to putting a lot more mileage on it in future and not using the RC as much as I do now - for long highway trips that add boring mileage that's ageing my SP2!

Finally I can carry comfortably passengers again too - Maybe I can even persuade my wife to jump on the back!

I know it's not an RC51 and so not very interesting to most, but I've put about 25,000km on my SP2 in the last 18 months and I don't want to keep adding mileage except when out to ride for fun.

Soon I'll have my old, but perfect solution to put back into use again.
I'm mildly excited & thought I'd share here.

Euro RC51 SP2: HRC WSB Ti Hi-Level, T1 Airbox & Snorkel, PCIII, Dymag CA5 Carbon Wheels, Ti64 Spindles (F, R & Swing Arm), Mori Link, Maxton GP7 Shock & Ohlins 832 Forks, Brembo GP Calipers & SBK narrow track (F), Braketech Disc (R), Brembo billet Underslung x 2 Brembo RCS, Tyga Triple, 7075 Stem, Probolt Titanium all over, Babyface rearsets, MR Complete Carbon Lineup, Custom Undertail & CBR 1000 LED, Watsen LED Indicators, Harris Brace, Giles clip-ons, Corbin seat, etc. 2013 BOTY.

Also picked up an old but very low mileage Kawasaki KMX200 (2 stroke on/off road) a few months ago. Good for lending to friends, thrashing about in the forest on, or popping to the supermarket on. Fun to ride & makes me feel like a teenager again. I'll take some pics when they're all together sometime. Keep looking at Aprilia RS250's because they're cheap and super fun when running well - but I must resist

A long time ago when they were new I borrowed one for a day and loved it...
Saw a very low mileage RS250 for sale a few months ago, which went for about $3,000 in the end, but I resisted putting in a bid...

2 strokes can be maddeningly annoying to keep them running well, especially with a scarcity of parts! The little KMX is fun and has only done a little over 2,000km now - from new, but if it ever breaks I might not be able to fix it since parts are scarce.

Maybe someday I'll seek out a little race replica 2 stroke when I have more time on my hands. I see them on the roads from time to time, NSR250 & RGV250SP's and the like. They look pretty dated now though!

Good on ya Stig, isn't a day goes by I wouldn't love to have my VF500 back. Do you get lots of stares at your SP2 over there?

Duct tape can't fix stupid...but it sure helps muffle the sound

I will also be getting back an old bike of mine in a few months. It's a 98 kawi ex250. Not as old as yours, but it was my first bike and I sold it to a friend. He took care of it for about five years until someone tried to steal it. He got it back but lost interest in fixing it. It's been sitting for about five years now.

Once I get it back I'll be stripping it down and replacing all the bearings and seals, refreshing the suspension and getting some track skins to make it my learner bike for racing. I'll probably also race the RC, but the ex250 will be much cheaper as a set of tires should last half the season or longer.

Pre-VTech 750, gear driven cams sound like....victory.

Yep, it's pre v-tec with gear driven cams (the cam gear whine is one of the little things that helped draw me to the RC ). I put it away properly when I left the UK so it started up on the third attempt by my buddy recently. Looks dated, but I don't care. It's a great old tool with a lot of memories touring the UK & Europe.

As for the SP2, it gets it's share of admiration, but mostly from bikers.
Friends I visited yesterday said they could hear it from far away...
It's not inconspicuous
