I'm lame.

Alright, I've lurked around here long enough, time to post.

I've been shopping for an RC51 pretty heavy lately, the weather is starting to break here in Michigan and my bike just isn't cutting it anymore. I hate those lame "I can't decide how to spend my own money so someone tell me what to do" type threads, so I'm going try to reword it a little.

I'm looking at two bikes (both RC's), similar mileage, similar condition (clean titles, never been down, almost mint). One is an SP1 with Erion pipes, dyno-tuned pc3, steering damper and $200-$300 worth of riding gear. The other is a bone stock SP2. The SP1 with the goodies is about $300 less, and is much more convenient geographically. I'm aware of all the changes made for 2002, but my question is this: are they primarily numbers-in-magazines type changes or will my ass-dyno register a difference? The SP1 is cheaper AND has a lot of parts that I will probably add at some point anyway, but are the factory upgrades worth shelling out the clams and giving up the go-fast parts?

If anyone out there can see into this vague post, their input will be appreciated.

Interesting thread; welcome to the forum.
I wish I could help you, but I have no knowledge to input.
Sub Salior seems to be the resident expert around here, perhaps he will chime in.

Tough call. Both are great bikes and on par.
I guess I'd side with the SP1 since it's got the goodies over the stock SP2 that you won't have to buy later.

For practical purposes, there won't be much difference between the two for street riding.

You wont be able to tell the difference between the 2 bikes stock.

Sounds to me like the sp1 is the better deal

Thanks for the input everybody, I think you're getting at exactly what I was saying. I'm not Nicky Hayden. I'm just an average rider (but young, I've still got some learnin' to do). I'm going to do a few track days this summer, but that's not the main purpose of this bike. Maybe the SP1 is the better choice after all (I find myself thinking about that one more). Others?
