palomar mt is full of squids trying to be hayden, rossi, pedrosa, lorenzo and a dozen other MotoGP and WSBK riders on a public road. Its rediculous, when I first moved out to san diego I was told that was the place to go, but no one, and i mean no one has any respect for anyone out there. You want to ride like that... take it to the track.

If I ever make it to that part of Cali with a bike I'd love to check it out. Anybody been there as well as Deal's Gap and can compare the atmosphere?

I've been to DG and the surrounding area dozens of times. As far as the bike scene in the warmer months the place is packed 95% riders and 5% cagers. There will always be squids and those riding above their heads, but there are also genuinely fast people coming through. Seems like most folks are pretty considerate. If you see bike headlights on you in a big hurry it's generally a good idea to pull into one of several paved pull-offs to let them by.

if you want good riding in so cal ride angels crest. Biggest problem with palomar is that everyone thinks its laguna seca. You can enjoy a nice ride and have fun going up palomar and down palomar if you treat it what it is.. a public road. Problem is damn near everyone on it thinks its a closed circuit race track.

I live in the Palm Springs area and I make the trek to Palomar instead of Angeles Crest because the road is cleaner and it's easier to run laps up and down the lower section to the lookout and back. There tend to be some jerks who think they can buy their way to skill but seems like most people would rather sit at the top and talk about riding instead of actually putting in the time in the saddle. Try to go on a week day, it's a ghost town.
