Today was my 1st

Well today was my first good ride on my new to me 03 RC51, and I gotta say "wow". Its night and day compare to my 07 1k but its alot of fun to ride and hear that v-twin roaring there the canyons. One thing i did notice was my fuel light came on around 85 miles. How many miles do you guys get on a tank of gas?

Check the "choke" on the left side of the bike, was this pulled out when you were riding?

Glad you had a good ride, and '03s are the fastest...

Yeah 85 miles is a bit low depending on how you ride and what is done to the bike.

If the choke was left on, you want to get new plugs too.

Sure enough the choke was not pushed all the way in, how bad you think plugs gonna be. I just replace them and all fluids before i started riding the bike.

At least pull em out and look. I wish i had a specific site, but I don't remember. However, there are lots of sites about spark plug diagnostics. So you can see how far gone they are, if they are. But they most likely are...

How hard were you riding?

Honestly, I would be surprised if anything happened to your plugs because of that. The "choke" knob is actually just a fast idle knob. It doesn't change your ratios like a true choke does. Do you have a PowerCommander or other aftermarket EFI module? When the light comes on and you fill the tank, how much fuel are you putting back in to full?

My fuel light comes on around 130-140 miles (from full) and I usually put about 3 - 4 gallons back in. This of course depends on how aggressive I was riding. At a recent track day I rode about 100 miles and burned through a tank and half of premium pump gas.

Ok, here's the first photo of one of my plugs at 16K miles with my Jardine 2-1 full system and remap.
A very nice tan color indicating good overall fueling and heat range.

Here's a plug at the next 16K mile interval after I replaced my Jardine 2-1 with my Akrapovic 2-1-2 full system and remap.
Slightly on the rich side (light gray), but still perfectly ok.
