How old is too old?

I'm plagiarizing a thread from another forum, so just wanted to be up front about that, but this is a totally cool website about Phil Read. What a legend! I just wish he would have fancied the RC51!

The question came up, how old is too old to keep riding? Naturally, someone brought up a racing prodigy to be an example.

Hope you enjoy this site. It appears to be maintained and updated by someone very close to Mr. Read's inner circle.

I'd say that when your ability to ride is too impaired, then it's time to hang it up.
Not that it stops the jokers here in Florida from driving.
These geezers down here will flat scare you with their lack of driving abilities.
Yet they are considered safe drivers. Probably because they drive so slow the cops don't make any money off them.
Everyone else is flagged as having road rage trying to pass them while they cruise en masse at 20 below the limit (15 to 20 in a 45).

LMFAO

Hey, don't think those gsxr guys are idiots, they just flip them over to harley.com and tap into that huge market of baby-booming, mid-life crisis having, viagra popping, weekend warrior, exec's who have too much money, not enough skill, and wanna feel like they are really cool. And they ride as slow as all the 'safe drivers' Sub has in FL

LMAO at 84 my dad still rides and at the end of this summer I meet him up in Arkansas for some nice rides in the Russellville area. I laugh when he asks when I'm coming off the RC and I just tell him that I plan on lasting a year or two longer than him. He still refuses to move over to the trike type harley but when his wife is with him he does hook the side car on....... Boy what a scare to ride LOL

Yeah I ran across (almost literally) one of Hell's Financial Consultants this past weekend out in the country.
I'm taking it easy and here's some bozo putting along at 35 MPH in a 55. I mean he's going slow even by Harley standards, and in the country no less.
I went faster than that on my dirt bike (in the dirt no less) back in '72.

Never to old

Here's one for you. I've got a friend who lives in deals gap area [age 82].I went down to visit him and ride. I on my 82 wing he on his 2008 wing.It took me a half day to get use to his pace. This is part of the reason I now own an RC. He [Ed] has tryed a sportster, Bmw r 1100, and just bought a victory crosscountry. Now I 55 yr old hope to have 30 more years on two wheels. Oh yea Ed tried a three wheeler. And said he would rather walk or Hitch hike.
