I just baught my first rc51 and was wondering what type of fuel economy to expect from my stock rc51 on a 30 mile ride at cruising speeds of 70 or so? from what i understand these bikes are terrible but just how bad

Mixing fuel economy and the RC is like mixing oil and water, its just not meant to be BUT all haha's aside its prob high 30s / low 40s at highway speed at best IMO

At best you may get about 45mpg, if riding aggressive, maybe about 25mpg. I know that's a wide range of milage, but so many factors and variables...
All in all, I average 35-40 mpg.

Put fuel in...twist the fun tube, and smile ,smile ,smile.

It's got terrible fuel mileage but the shits and giggle factor more than makes up for the mileage!

I guess my average commuting mileage at 55-65 was always around 25mpg or so. It's hard to lay off the throttle even when going back and forth to work. My commute was only about 30 miles each way. 25 is not going to happen when spirited riding. It really is cheaper for me to drive my Subaru than ride my bike to work.

That sounds really extreme. What sprockets/tire do you have? At 55-65, what gear are you in, and what rpm are you running at?

I was running 15/42, Indicated 70 was about 60. I went more for averaging my distance travelled and gallons used than using the odometer to calculate. I ran in 5th/6th cruising. Like I said, it's hard to lay off the throttle. I still stand by 25 on the track being a high estimate. I can't see one getting 45mpg. Not unless you concentrated on mileage and had no fun.

You've got a super rich fuel map i bet. Wipe your finger inside the tip of your exhaust, I'll bet built up with carbon. How do the insides of your mufflers look? They shouldn't be completely clean, but neither should they be built up with black carbon.
I would guess that our riding styles are pretty similiar from what you described, and our gearing is identical and I run a 190/55. I just think you have a very rich map. Ever had a dyno tune?
And you're gonna think I'm a idiot with this question, but is your choke pushed all the way in? (I know, I know, but it's happened to a couple people on this forum)

I don't ride "Aggressively, but I ain't scared to twist the wrist a bit"....I get about 110 between fuel lights coming on. Not sure how much is in the tank, but don't want to test it either.

J Dog, is a really good source for knowledge as is Sub Sailor and a bunch of other fella's on here, I'm more here for comic relief... ...In all seriousness though,I'd check your tips and your mapping as that's probably the best indicator of what is going on under your butt... But start with what J Dog said, as he's the only guy I know that can stick his thumb up a Duck's ass and tell you where it was from....

Ride it like you stole it......Kirk out !
