Dunlop 209GP-A's for street duty????

I know there mainly a track tire but does anyone have any experience with them on the street?
I'm mostly concerned with tread life and wear. I've ran a set of Pilot Powers 2ct and a Power 2ct front with a Pilot Road 2 2ct rear. I was happy with both sets but this season I was thinking about going with a set of Pures, but now I have the change to pick up a new (with stickers on them) set of 209's with a 190/55 rear for $300. Date codes are 12/09 for the rear and 11/09 for the front, they have been stored in a closet, in plastic bags sinse early 2010.

I may meet up the guy this weekend and see what is bottom $$$ is (what would you pay?), depending on the feed back I get here.

Thanks for any advice in advance,
James

Remember that tires age even if never used.
The effective life of a tire is about 5 years.
The plasticisers begin to degrade after 5 years and the tire begins losing it's flexibility.
That's one reason for the date code on the sidewall.

I knew about the 5yr thing, but not why.
So it sounds like old tires can be more deadly then I thought.
Thanks for that "tid-bit" on tire tech.

If you're mostly concerned with tread life and wear and can use a Pilot Road rear, pass on these. They are far stickier than you need and you'll be lucky to get 2k out of them. I use D211 on the street when I can find them for really cheap (much better tire than me, but they stick) only because I'm knee dragging in the mountains. The center wore out on my last one in 1000 miles, but it was a soft. Just my .02 If you insisted on buying them, I'd probably offer 250, 275 max.

Makes you want to invest in another set of wheels for those "softer moments" in the mountains.

I too like the D211 series.

That's about all I see as I live in the mountains. Would be a neat idea to have some OEM wheels with touring rubber though for the days I just feel like riding through town.

yeah I found the the add on CL, I called the guy for more info, but last Friday or Saturday I told him I was passing on them and now he's pushing them like he's trying to sling crack or something.

If there only good for a few 1K or so, I going to wait a could weeks and see if he'll take $100 for a set.

Thanks for the info guys,

James
