Exclamation Ecu ??

Gang,
On my ride home today...bike cut out / cut off twice while riding

The bike came back on immediately, but when it cut out the second time I looked down and all of my gauges had gone dark, as if I had shut off the bike completely

Is that an indicator my ECU is going out ?

More of an indicator you have a loose connection or short somewheres...

Check the battery cables Easiest place to look first. If that's not it then go over all the grounds. I would turn on the bike and wiggle the battery connections first to see if you can recreate the symptoms. Then clean and reconnect.

Edit to add: Especially check for corrosion near the end of the cables. The ends may look OK but those cables can corrode and become brittle inside, typically near the terminals.

You have to eat the casserole to get your salad tossed... Do you have a tube of dielectric grease? May want to get some and swab a dab or two in the electrical connections. This will help with corrosion.

Check the side stand switch. It may be failing, or it needs to be adjusted so that the stand makes solid contact to the switch.

Good idea RAIN...I checked the battery cables and they were tight. Will try the side stand next

@Mad - I plan on getting a Shorai this summer, so I will get some di-electric grease when I do that install. I am sure Autozone should carry it

Since the guages went out then the circuit with the problem is one that includes the guages and whatever else keeps the bike running. A check the ignition switch, ECU grounds, etc.

What was the last thing you did to the bike?

OK guys...rode in this morning and a related but different issue arose. No cut out per say, but I did get a bucking motion, almost as if fuel was not making it to the injectors. The bike never cut out or off, all gauges stayed lit. It only happened once, and lasted for maybe 2 seconds. Sputtered and backfired a bit...then righted herself and I kept going.

Thoughts ?

What you just described used to happen to me. The bike would cut out as if no fuel was making it to the injectors, guages would stay on. This would only happen on bumpy roads though. Finally checked the ecu and it had come loose from the undertail. Put some zip ties around it to secure it in place and haven't had the problem since Hope this helps!
