Death of an RC51

So my RC went over today in the parking lot due to 40mph winds. Lost the seat cowl, tank, exhaust, grip end, lever, frame slider........i still feel sick and this was 3 hrs ago
Fortunately she's fully insured. This is the part that has me concerned though.

The lower rearset bolt isn't square with the upper bolt or the frame. The pictures really don't show it well (it's ugly). If you look closely in the upper picture you can kinda see it. It's tweaked, which means my frame is tweaked, which may mean the insurance company totals my baby.

Opinions????? let the insurance company total her, pick up another one and keep this for a track bike? Keep my mouth shut about the frame and live with it after repairs?

sucks man, sorry to hear about it. I know what you mean too. I was on the Aprilia 2 weekends ago riding through a canyone and got hit with a gust of 20-30 MPH....no not joking. Well it picked up just about every quarter sized rock and pelted me and my bike. It could of been worse but there are visible pits on my helmet and front of the bike now......nothing you can do about it though. Thats just what happens when you ride motorcycles, you can't keep it pristine. Stuff like that just happens.
Honestly i don't think your frame is bent.....i would think it would take a lot more to bend the frame, they are pretty strong. More likely your rearset or lower bolt is bent. The tank alone is going to cost quite a bit though. Either way have the insurance company check it out and pay for the damage....the cowl, tank, and exhaust will bring you close to 1000. If the frame is bent, i'd get rid of it and find another RC.

The rearset billet adapter is definitly bent. I'm in no rush to pull it apart to check, if it's more than just a bent bolt I doubt it will go back together.

yeah, i think it's pretty unlikely the frame is bent....especially from a tip over. Probably a combination of the rearset and bolt being bent. Really should be just a matter of replacing it.

Really sorry to hear that. Not mocking you at all; I feel your pain. And the beauty is, I think that will be covered by your comprehensive - not your collision. Lower deductable and you will NOT take a hit on your driver licence point system, nor will it be considered an accident, which means Insurance cant raise your rates. (All based on my knowledge of CA insurance law). The glass half full...

I think your frame wont be bent. I agree with gts455, the rearset and the bolt probably a little less strong than the frame. Besides, I've seen plenty of bent rearsets that are used even after a fall, and although they are bent, has no issue with the trueness of the frame.
There's a great deal on a fuel tank right now. I'd snap it up, at the price he's offering it won't last to long, imo.

That sucks man!! We get nasty surprise windstorms here in the desert. Just last eek we were in the middle of 30mph sustained. I was at work and had this eerie feeling so I went and pulled my bike into the stairwell at the barracks near work and no less than 20 minutes later a micro burst tore through the lot and nearly destroyed 10 cars, something like 25 windows broken and numerous other reasonably severe damage. My poor RC would have never stood a chance.

On the bright side it looks as if everything is replaceable without permanent damage. Does your insurance have an aftermarket parts coverage? That might help recoup replacement parts for the rear sets. Good luck and hope she's fixed soon!!

SF should cover all of it, at least they're supposed to. The local dealer is cool and willing to work with me. The tin and the body panels will be easy to get OEM Honda. Some of the parts are going to be hard to find new, as in 1 Two Bros carbon can, the R/H Sato rearset. Just the OEM parts are about 1500. I'm feeling SF is going to be writing a very large check. Most of the custom stuff is untouched, the engine, my HID light conversion etc. It's mostly all bolt on parts as long as I didn't tweak that rearset mount. I just rolled her in the garage for the night and sickening feeling is begining to ease up. I'll keep ya'll posted as I go.
