is the power commander 3r any good? got it for free

I was curious if I should atempt to put and map the pc3r on my rc that I got for free. I know the usb is a lot better which I'd rather have. But would have to save for. If some one could give me any input I'd greatly apreciated it. I have flapper valve mod and jardine 2:1.
Thanks

I would have to say ABSOLUTELY...map it !! You got it for free..it's installed...USE IT ! Go to the dynojet website, find your specs and download the map that goes with your bike

Thank you I will do it. Do you know if its pretty difficult? Or should I just take it to a shop to have it done? The only reason I ask if its any good is because a well known shop here in Houston called motorcycles unlimited said I should just get rid of it its not reliable but I say free mine as well try it out.

It is just as reliable as any other PC, but lacks some of the "tweaking" ability of the USB version. Biggest hassle is connecting it to your laptop since it uses a serial cable, but do what I did and purchase this.

I cannot comment on the complexity, but from my "ballin' on a budget" perspective...I would say use what ya got until ya get what ya want ! I am sure the shop wants to sell you a PCIII USB as I am sure it is easier for them as well not to mention the revenue earned. As for one being better, I am sure the newer technologies are more reliable...just as I am sure when Dyno comes out w/ the PCIV Bluetooth / WiFi / USB it will be better than the PCIII. If it were me, I'd go to the Dynojet website....take a look around and call them and get their help....it worked great for me when I was having troubles. I would also reach out to several of the guys here like LDH / Sub / Jondog as they are a WEALTH of knowledge....

Alright thank you, looked on website a bit I guess I have to download the software first when I get home, then it allows me to look at maps? Not the best with computers

When ever some one throws out a blanket statement like that, I get skeptical. I sure wouldn't use that shop. The PCIIIr is a good improvement over the OEM map if you have custom exhaust. And the right map installed.
I've been running my PCIIIr for a year and a half now, no reliability problems. Even before I changed from OEM eshaust, I noticed how it smoothed out the throttle, making turns a little smoother to get thru. I ran it that way for a month or two before I switched to Yoshi's and eventially BlackDrangon exhaust.
It's up to you to make sure that you have the right fuel mapping with any PowerCommander.
Try the PCIIIr, you got nothing to lose.

Cool, going from yosi to the jardine and when I bought jardine he game me the pc. He says its mapped to satos right now. So were just gonna hook up and see what happens then start plugging into comp or might just take up to Honda. They say 118$ to install and map. But would rather do my self. And when I told the guy I have the pc3r he litteraly laughed at me.

I did a fast glance on the Dynojet site and found this map - 114-004 Erion Racing 2:1 full exhaust and stock or aftermarket air filter - give it a look as I am not sure if you are on a Sp1 or SP2
