Is this a fair deal

Hi all, long time lurker first time poster.

I am looking to make 3 hour trip from Boston to NY state, near Albany, to look at a 2002 RC51 with 18,000 miles. Before I make a trip, I'd like to see if it's worth it.

So from what the owner tells me, its a clean title, no accidents. There is a small crack in the front fairing, needs front tires, and the aftermarket exhaust has a small crack that will need to be replaced eventually as it will get bigger. It has some minor scratches and scuffs from age.

Price is listed as $3600. Is this atleast a fair deal? All help and opinions will be appreciated!! Thanks!

I think it's worth looking at. From your description. Have you seen pictures? Here, people are asking a lot more than that for same.
If pictures look ok, I'd do a three hour drive to look.
That's good low mileage, if correct, but the care it's gotten in it's life is more important. Sounds like he's tipped it and/or lowside?
If it's been sitting for a while, check it over good. I take a few tools and ask to look under the fairings.
Oh, Welcome to the forum.

Jeez Buddha, How much more are they worth when you get done painting one?

Sounds like Aus. needs some more RC51's to help bring the price down. Let's start a little importing business.

$3,600 minus the cost of a replacement fairing, go ahead, try your negotiation skills...fan the cash out when you say that too.

This is semi-related, so not a total thread jack.
earlyrc51 went to a lot of pain and patience to restore his 2000 production number 2 SP1 back to showroom and all original condition. He was Very dissapointed when he couldn't sell it for a premium price. I think he started at about 10,000. I saw a post of his, some months after he put it up for sale, asking if anyone would give him $5000. That was on this forum.
Shortly after that post, he posted again. He sold the bike to an Australian who gave him his full asking price (???) because in Aus., RC51's are in short supply, high price, and he was happy to pay earlyrc51's price and ship it back to Aus.

The point here is that even a completely restored RC51 isn't worth any more than a ridden yet maintained one is. And here in the US, at the moment, their value is pretty low. 929's and 954's are fetching more.
