Rad question

Hey guys got a question about the rads, I have an '03 with low miles but I notice every once in awhile if its real hot out and the fans kick in around 220 degrees I will get just one drop of coolant.

Left rad just to the left of the radiator right around the foam area, any suggestions where it may be coming from?

All clamps are tight guaranteed and when I tried to duplicate in the winter I could not get it to do it.

No obvious leaks just every once in awhile...any suggestions would be appreciated.

Were the SP2's prone to pin hole leaks?

The LH rad has only the two hose clamps to leak out from....

If I were you, I'd take it off, boil it for half an hour in distilled water and then blocking of with a big cork the one opening, I'd blow 1.1 bar of pressurized air through the other one while the rad is still in the hot water.
If it's a tiny hole, it should reveal itself but the rad must be hot enough so that the aluminum and the weldings are quite expanded.

I strongly suspect the point where the upper front rad's mount meets the rad.......

I don't know about being *prone*, but my rad repairman told me that pinholes are a common failure on any radiator. After years of cooling and heating cycles, material failure can happen. This can be a result of impurities in the metal/alloy, vibration, loose or over-tight mounting points, physical damage, etc...

Thanks for the suggestions guys but curiosity got me so I started poking around some more.

It's been very hot as of late so I tried to duplicate the problem...Lo and behold I find the slightest pinhole leak at the top front hose of the left rad. Quick run to my buddies used/wrecker shop and found a hose from a parted out RC, new coolant and I'm back in business.

Going to flog her hard in the canyons tomorrow!

Have a good one guys and ride safe.
