new pads

Hi,

I installed some new brake pads today. They are Carbone Lorraine XBK's. My intial impression of them is that so far, they dont have a lot of initial bite. At least not compared to the pads I took off (I dont know the brand, they came with the bike). With this said, I'm wondering it they will get better with some more miles? I only rode about 20 miles with them so far so maybe that isnt enough?

You have to give them time to bed into the rotors. They will get better.

Did you prep the rotor before riding the bike, or just installed pads??

I do one of the two: Use a green 3M pad to clean the rotor or glass bead the braking area of the rotor.

You don't have to do these things but it does help the new pads bed in faster.

Ok thanks. They brake ok overall when I apply the brake and feel progressive, I was just surprised with the initial bite being low. I thought it might need to give them more time to bed/break in.

Mine were exactly the same way. They'll be in after a hundred miles or so.
But definitely give your discs a quick once over with the green scotchbrite like madbuyer said.
I felt like they were the best pads I ever had on any bike.
You meant SBK5's right?

Ok thanks. They changed the name to XBK5. It's the same pad, they just changed the name for some reason.
