Question What bike to replace your RC51?

While I currently have no intentions of getting rid of my RC51, I have been thinking about what bike would/could replace it. Its hard to find something as unique, great looking, reliable, affordable, and another bike that sounds just as awesome. A few bikes that keep coming to mind are the Ducati 1198, Honda CBR1000RR, or the 09+ Yamaha R1. I really like the 1198 and it seems like a good replacement but the maintenance stories/issues that I hear and have read about worry me.

So the question is, what bike would you get to replace your RC51?

As I've owned, rode and serviced a lot of different bikes and brands I personally would stick to Japanese.

That being said I'm a Honda guy through and through so first choice would be '08 + CBR1000rr and the only other one would be '09 + R1 as that cross plane motor is a hoot and makes some great sounds on the gas...

Maybe a GSXR1000 but sorry I'll be damn before I ever owned a Kawasaki.

I sold my 96 CBR900RR about 2 months before my 00 RC came in. Always missed the inline four sound. Last year I picked up a used 96 and spent the spring doing a complete restomod build on it. Didn't replace the RC but added a nice compliment to it.

2000 RC51 - stock owned since new 5/2000
2006 RC51 - 2nd owner purchased 4/2015 with 1400 miles
1996 CBR900RR - mild resto/mod - done spring 2012
1990 Honda VFR - original stock owned since 1991
1975 Kawasaki S3 - restored in 2004-5 (sold 10-17)
2003 Kawasaki ZX7R - bought 10/2018
2007 Honda Interceptor 25th Anniversary purchased 7/2014
1972 Honda Mini Trail - 1st restoration in 1992, and 2016 restored to like new condition. (sold 2/18)

I agree. It would be cool to own a Ducati or Aprilia I will most likely stick to Japanese bikes as well. I feel that they are more reliable and you can get a lot more for your $. Its not that hard to find 2011 and 2012 leftovers for around $10k (which is very tempting).

I would like to take both the R1 and CBR1000RR for a test ride to see how the two compare.

Not a replacement but - going to the bike show this weekend in Long Beach, and I need something to give my old aching back a break, so going to look at the retro CB1100 coming out for 2013. Just read the review and it would be a welcome addition.

I agree with nobody..... If I was not on my RC I would be on a cross plane R1 as I almost bought one 2years ago. It is my next bike.
I had a kwak....never going back to that.

I wouldn't replace mine, but there are cheaper old bikes that can give better versatility for short trips or commutes. I have a VFR750 for getting about longer distance when the roads aren't too exciting and a couple of 2 stroke bikes for local trips.
Had a Fireblade before, I don't miss the cookie cutter 4 cyl.

Euro RC51 SP2: HRC WSB Ti Hi-Level, T1 Airbox & Snorkel, PCIII, Dymag CA5 Carbon Wheels, Ti64 Spindles (F, R & Swing Arm), Mori Link, Maxton GP7 Shock & Ohlins 832 Forks, Brembo GP Calipers & SBK narrow track (F), Braketech Disc (R), Brembo billet Underslung x 2 Brembo RCS, Tyga Triple, 7075 Stem, Probolt Titanium all over, Babyface rearsets, MR Complete Carbon Lineup, Custom Undertail & CBR 1000 LED, Watsen LED Indicators, Harris Brace, Giles clip-ons, Corbin seat, etc. 2013 BOTY.

Duc 916/996/998 or an Ape Mille. Easy choices to make. Would also love to put another Triumph back in my stable. I dearly miss my Speed Triple. 675 Daytona would also be a great addition. Augusta Senna wouldn't go amiss. Clearly an RC45 would be an ideal choice. As well as an RC30. But then another NC35 would be great for thrashing around the streets. And then icing on the cake would be a OWO2 R7. I digress.

Ironically I'm looking for another RC51 to compliment my vintage bikes.
