Unhappy Rc213v-s: How much does it cost to keep it running?

Every number surrounding Honda's crazy limited-run RC213V-S is big. The 220bhp V4 that pushes along just 160kg of machinery. The £137,000 asking price that would have bought you one if you were fast enough with your chequebook. And now a lucky owner has revealed just what it costs to keep his RC running when ridden as intended.

You'd have to keep your Sunday rides short and get home within two and half hours, just to stay within the service intervals. We're not kidding, two and half hours between services. These aren't just your average oil and filter changes either, which are expensive enough at £450 without labour. Once you reach 3000km the crank, rods and other internal parts need to be junked for new. If you have to put a number on that - it equates to £48 per lap of Donington Park. Ouch. A quick list of spares prices -

Frame - £23,000

Exhaust system - £19,000

Forks - £18,000

Swingarm - £14,000

Throttle bodies - £13,000

Fuel tank - £4,000

Holy hell! Unless you're racing, who would buy one knowing that? You'd have to have stupid money.

If one has enough spare change to pay over $130,000 for one, those maintenance cost won't phase them.
Some will just buy one and put it in a glass case in the living room to admire.

There's one doctor in my town (the one who invented the gel-cap) that has a 30 car garage filled with exotic cars.

Several years ago, I ran across him and his buddy out for a Sunday drive.
He was in his Mercedes CLK-GTR and he loaned his buddy his Ferrari F50.
The aim being to see how quick they could get from Tampa to Miami.

If he was into bikes instead of cars, this guy could have bought the entire RC213V-S production run without breaking a sweat.

Just one of his cars could buy 4 or 5 of these bikes, and he has 29 more after that.
He is that wealthy, and he's not alone in this town, which considering it's population, is astounding.
