Scam... What do you think?

Ok, Here goes:

Found a 2002 sp2 on cycle trader listed for $2699 with 75xx miles. I was stoked, good deal right?

Soooo... emailed the seller and received a strange story involving seller starting UK business. His friend is holding bike for him in WI.

Seller offered to ship to me through basically a third party shipper/escrow service. ABC Trans Logistics LTD, sound scammy?

I checked VIN and report shows 20k at last transfer, 3 owners. Seller claims it was a typo in ad. VIN# is JH2SC45362M200684 shows correct as a 2002 rc-51.

We have been back and forth. I am almost ready to give it up. But I admit it is very tempting to see this through.

Does anybody recognize the VIN and bike?

As always, I thank you guys for your wealth of knowledge and your willingness to share it with me.

Dave

From my limited experience, every one of these "Selling for someone else", and especially if they want to ship the bike to you deals, is a scam. They're going to want some money from you up front. Doesn't matter how small the amount, because your never going to see the bike anyway. I saw an awesome GSXR-1000 on CL for sale for $2500.00. Supposedly the seller was the widow of an Iraq war veteran, who was KIA. She just wanted to get rid of the bike, because it reminded her too much of him. Yeah right. That bike was worth 8 grand I would say, so yeah, it was a scam as well. If you can't go see it in person, you're taking a big chance. JMHO. Pipes on that bike look to be worth about half the asking price, at least. No one who has one that looks that good is gonna give it away like that either. I think I've seen other scam bike ads, where there was a classic car in the background too. There's always subtle things in the picture to make you think it's legit. Usually they only have one pic though. Ask the guy for a picture of the license plate, just for kicks!

2002 SP2
2005 750 Katana
2000 KX-500
1984 VT500 Ascot
1977 RD-400

Nice Old Harley you got there! Mind if I kick it over?

That sounds right.

I am going to offer up Uship and escrow.com and if he refuses to use them then that will be the end.

I can post his contact email up if anybody else wants to play his game!!

If anybody has anything to add I'm all ears.

Thanks Russ*Collins51

You find these scam ads no matter what you are shopping for; boats, bikes, mowers.

Tell them your cousin lives in whatever town the bike is supposed to be in and that he will come check it out and take it for a test ride. Then the story will get interesting! It's in storage, it's crated up in a warehouse, it's in an art gallery, it's in a relatives living room!

They don't want the full purchase price, just a shipping deposit or insurance.

It can be good entertainment! Ask for a picture of the bike with todays newspaper!

Ha ha, that is awesome!

I basically told him I would do the deal if he agrees to use an escrow company. can't think of how he would be able to defraud using that.

I bet there will be an issue with using the escrow company.

I think I am done with this guy.

The search continues!
