RC51North winter thread

I am located in Norway, so the winters here can stretch from october to april. But usually march is warm enough to melt the snow so hopefully i can start my season soon.

I bought this RC51, or VTR 1000R SP1 as they are called in Europe, in august last year. The Euro model has red fairings with a black tail, unlike the US version with silver too. So this bike had a fairing change sometime in its life. The tank is re-painted, as i can feel the silver upper part under the clear with my nail.

I first thought it was fitted with a china fairing kit, but all the plastic turns out to be genuine. Checked the VIN, and it comes as a Euro model. Someone also thought it was a good idea to paint the rims silver too (and did a really bad job at it).

So i thought of finding some original plastics for the bike, to bring it back to the right red color, but soon found out parts for this bike are hard to get a hold of, especially the rear undertail with original rear lights. Mine came with an ugly aftermarket undertail.

But as time went along, i kinda liked the US colors. Not only that, i got really hung up watching old AMA Superbike-races, with Nicky Hayden tearing up the tracks on the RC51. So thats when i decided to make the bike a NH #69 replica instead.

Ordered up a set of Nicky Hayden edition aftermarket sticker kit and a set of sponsor stickers.

More to come. Thanks for looking

Don't you have those long days in the summer? Stays day light until around 11PM doesn't it? But I know winter is plenty cold, I lived in a small town in England on the North Sea coast many years ago. Summer was short but beautiful. I couldn't deal with their winters for the long term. Love my northern California climate. Bike looks good, might have been original owner traded Euro plastics for US kit. You won't be seeing another paint job like yours frequently either so that's a win as well. Here's hoping for a short winter for you.

Yeah, the summer nights are long, in the north of Norway it never gets dark in the middle of summer.

So, here i have started with the sponsor decals. I really like the quality of the decals, they feel solid. I had to remove the original HONDA decal on the bottom of the fairing, and the glue had to be removed with paint thinner.

Not so pleased with the NH edition decals, the front and tail decals didnt cover the black areas, so i ended up ordering some vinyl wrap, and made my own. And since i wanted a replica of the 69 Hayden bike, i made the tail decals bigger, like the race bike. Was able to fit the correct size numbers too by doing them bigger. And the best part, when i dont want the big decals on the back anymore, i can simply tear them off.

Also sent the rims to paint, and new Dunlop rubber are waiting when they come back 😎

looks like aftermarket. Don't think OEM had springs.

Ok, thanks.
There is also a Power Commander 3 in it, thinking of getting the bike on a dyno this spring, to optimize it. Dont know what its got for air filters, but i read somewhere that the original is as good as aftermarket? Or will the outcome on a dyno improve with aftermarket, as its got aftermarket exhaust?
