DID 520VX2 vs 520ZVM-X

Ok so it has come to the time where I need a new chain. I want to get a DID chain, but I wanted to know what some of you were using. Is it necessary that I get a 520ZVM-X? Would the 520VX2 hold up to the torque of the RC51? Has anyone had any problems using the 520VX2 on their RC51? Please let me know.

Thanks,
Joe

Short answer: either one works fine on an RC51.

Just doing some basic research for you - the VX2 and ZVM-X in 520 pitch are very similar in specification. The ZVM-X is heavier and stronger, although the wear rates are the same. I would imagine the ZVM-X will last longer based on the tensile strength (think of two forces pulling apart).

I also highlighted the ERV3, which a lot of people opt for around here. It's even lighter than the VX2 (barely), but is stronger and will theoretically wear out faster.

Fwiw, I run the 520ZVM-X on my bike for the mileage. I didn't go with the 530 pitch for the weight savings.

Sorry about the thread jack, but I'm going to throw another chain into the mix...

James, I'm using that chain right now, so far about 300mi with minor adjustment and it really feels like the bike revs quicker. That chain should be just fine, just remember to keep em nice an lubed. Also if you do get it from them, be sure that they put a rivet master link, as I got the clip type (these wont last a week).

A lot of folks over at R1-forum use the MVXZ 520 chain. Part of it is word-of-mouth advertising by the local sponsor, but yeah, its specs are in line with the DID 520ZVM-X chain. It actually has slightly better tensile strength too.

+1 on rivet style masterlinks. My 07 R1 had an EK chain with a clip style masterlink on it when I purchased it. It was gone after two rides - scary stuff.
