Gas Tank

Ok, I feel a little ridiculous for this question, but, oh well, eating a little crow isn't that bad I took my RC apart about 3 months ago to start a complete clean-up and partial restoration. Thought I bagged all my parts and bolts. Im having an issue here, mounting my tank back up. I've checked and rechecked the hose routing, all the wiring, and I can feel the tank rest lightly on top of the airbox. Did I forget a spacer, or got the wrong ones in there? Doooooohhhhh

hey Jondog, i think the fairing stay brace suppose to go underneath the tank mounting tabs..thats how i install mine.without the brace, the bottom of the tank will rub against your frame......good luck

yea on the tank rub. It looked to me like the tank has to stay at the level it's at. Thanks for the clarity on the fairing stay bracket.

Looks like it's not fairing stay. Funny thing is I've looked at some websites that had oem diagrams. I found about 3 sites. Only 1 showed the fairing stay I have that goes through the triple crown. The others showed the fairing stay you apparently have, that slips under the tank mounts. I thought that was a sp2 thing?

And thanks for the lead on that thread, that was interesting. Apparently, I have the 100th production RC51. Hmmm...

i think your fairing stay is an aftermarket piece. The OEM piece would go under the tank tab both SP1 or SP2...mine is an SP1 and a buddy of mine has an SP2, both goes the same way...

that is definitely an aftermarket fairing stay, although i've never seen one. yours should seat underneath the tank tab.

Yea, figured that out. Apparently, it's a stay to be used with linear steering damper. I guess I'll try to sell it...
