Its not for everybody. You are comparing very different bikes. if straightline speed is your thing, this bike is definitely not for you.

Like cbrbear said....its 10 years old. 600's these days are puting out an even amount if not more horsepower then this bike was 10 years ago.

I havent ridden my RC51 but I understand the difference between a V-twin and an Inline-4. Ive owned dozens of bikes, and numerous V-twins and Inline 4's. V-twins as follows- 1999 SV650, 2001 SV650, 2001 996 Bip, 2002 MH900E, 2002 MH900E, 2006 PS1000LE, and 2005 RC51. Inline 4's 1987 CBR1000F, 1988 CBR1000F, 1988 CBR1000F, 1992 CBR 900RR, 1996 CBR600F3, 1998 CBR 900RR, 1997 CBR1100XX, 2009 CBR1000RR, and probably a few other bikes im forgetting.... anyways my point is....

the V-twins all were disappointing in performance as compared to the Inline-4's but they are a totally different ride. I would have to say by far the best bike and most fun ride ive ever had was my early model SV-650's. Straight line speed of the V-twins is never there especially when you have factors such as dual valve vice 4 valve (as is the case with some ducati's). When you compare a 1000CC V-twin to a 1000CC Inline 4 the V-twin will have more torque for low end acceleration but it will have significantly less HP for high speed. Now take your 10 year old RC51 with maybe 120 HP, at best 75ft-lbs of torgue at what 480lbs and compare it to the 600 which has around 120 hp and maybe 65ft-lbs of torque and weighs in 100 lbs less and well you can do the math your self!
