random FI light issue

I'm not sure if this is a mechanical issue or rider error. My other bikes will power up first (obviously) but at certain times when I attempt to power up first on the rc the FI light comes on and it falls on its face. After the light goes off it will power up quite easy. This has happened for the last 2 days, at temps from 178 to 190. The rpm usually sitting around 4k-4500 when I attempt to power up. Yesterday alone I tripped the FI light 4 times and every time after it went out she would be fine. This happens on up hill on ramps, down hill on ramps, flat ground off traffic lights.
My first thought was to retune the pc3 but figured I would stop in here first.

Have you double checked the battery terminals. Sounds daft but mine were loose when it was doing this.

Cheers

After that, you should jump the ECM's self-diagnostic plug and observe the blinks of the FI indicator.......it may tell you what's wrong!

No. The ECM (or ECU) is the OEM computer behind the tail light with two large connectors. One grey and one black. They have 22 wires each.

Hi Batista, the advice earlier is the best. You will need to count the amount of FI blinks, I say this as there is nothing about (4) Blinks in my manual ( 2000 - 2001 ) then refer to the manual for what that number corresponds to.

2001 SP1 - Code Name F-Bomb - PCIII USB / D&D High Mount System / 42T / EK SRX 530X / CRG Levers / K&N Filters / Stomp Grip / Rev Limiter Mod / Flapper Mod / PAIR Mod / Undertail / Hugger / 6K HID Lights / Speigler lines / Wave Rotors / CF Airbox / Shorai Battery - More to come, as soon as my slush fund get's more "Slushy" !

I found the culprit to my flashing then solid FI light display. One of the tiny wires that goes into the grey plug into the ECU broke. It was a light green with a stripe, on the grey plug side. Sodered it back on and good to go - no more flashing FI light and no more back fire. Actually surprised this didn't happen sooner, and to more than one wire. Those wires are very thin and fragile. Nice to see that FI not blinking and/or on anymore ! ! !
