just wanted the brake and turn signals to work

I just wanted to get the brake and turn signals to work. I took the rear tail off to see what the previous owner had done. When people spend money on a bike you would think they would take a few minutes to do the wiring correctly. Not to mention they cut the seat lock cable. Guess I'm going to order a new rear wiring harness.

Yes, unfortunately you are correct. If you do buy a new one let me know, I may be interested in the old one for a few bucks if you would sell it.

I want to see how well I can restore one.

Nope. I'd never know anything about previous owner hack jobs.

Besides the electrical butchering, he did such a poor job on the undertail install, he used zip ties to hold what was left of the battery tray to the subframe.
Had to replace all wiring harnesses, rear fender, all bodywork, turn signals, and so on...
At lease the mechanicals were in good shape.
