clutch

a buddy of mine just dropped off his 04rc51 for me to work on after he smoked the clutch doin the geiko dyno drag thing yesterday. he had already partially taken it apart, and my question is does the outermost friction plate lock into the clutch basket or does it go in exactly like the other ones?....i know my 636 the outer one locks in...any help would be great or if anyone has a diagram of the clutch assembly or even just a pick of one installed.

All drive plates and all friction plates mount into their respective locations, be it clutch basket or hub.

Here's the clutch diagram.
Note: For SP2's, there are three types of friction plates used in the clutch.
The innermost and outermost friction plates are different than the rest.
The parts manual have the the plates reversed from the service manual.
The service manual has Plate A (item 25) as the innermost friction plate. It has a larger I.D. than the rest to clear the judder spring (item 26) and seat (item 24).
Plate B (item 6) is the outermost friction plate and is identified by dark speckles in the friction material and is color coded green on one tab.
The remaining plates (item 5) are all the same.

I thought plate b (item 6) had its own slot it HAD to go into. That is what my service manual says.

It does. The last plate will fit into the notches on the clutch basket.
