Over heating battery

Hi all.

Went for a good burn on the bike last night. To come home to a strong acid smell coming from the my bike. After sniffing every inch of my bike (fault diagnostics).
I found that the smell was coming from the battery. And the battery was pretty hot.Way too hot to ignore.
Started the bike and while under a little revs..approx 3000rpm.
The Voltage was reading 16v...
I figure I need to replace the old battery. But with that reading does that mean I need a new voltage rectifier?

Thanks for any input.

Cheers

Yeah it sounds like your regulator/rectifier unit is bad.
It shouldn't go over 15V.
You might have to replace the battery if it's been damaged.
