question on fork service

Just getting ready to tear into my forks and replace seals and remember reading something about the manual being wrong on removing the fork caps.
I did do a bit of search, but no solid info.
Can anyone shed a little light for me, so I can take these things apart?
Thanks

The service manual you can download online (such as I did) only shows the fork disassembly for the SP1's, which use a different fork cap and pre-adjuster design.
If you went by those disassembly instructions you could severely damage your damper rod in your cartridges.
The 2004 CBR1000RR forks use the same fork caps as the SP2.
So you follow those instructions to remove the fork caps and pre-load adjusters then shift over to the remaining instructions in the RC51 service manual for fork disassembly.
Download the CBR1000RR service manual online here:

Thanks for the help. Whoever was in there before me used some cheap aftermarket seals
Kind of a nutty set up on the fork caps, I've not done any like that before.
