Stuff in the gas

Can crap in the gas cause that screech I had in my fuel pump?

Yeah, when I drained the tank, there were some black flakes of crap that came out and went into my gas jug. Regardless, I cleaned everything before reassembly. And put in fresh gas.

Might lift your tank off and check where the fuel pump is mounted to see if that rubber is in safe condition. You may as well change the fuel filter while you are there too....you know that has to be screwing up your fuel flow there...I can't see those kinds of contaminants coming from the pump, unless you only fill up at one location.
