which bike do I get

Hi all
im in a bit of a quandary about which bike to buy, the 2 choices I have are

1.2006 9k miles, Sato high mounts, with a pc3 map, tail tidy but has had a low-side with some scratches on the right side fairings and the stator cover, it also has a dent in the tank that looks like a pressure dent.

2. 2004 nicky hayden..bone stock no pc3, no tail tidy, but VERY clean, not a scratch, minty. 12k miles
Both are the same price.
I know i'll add pipes and pc3 to the second one if I get it (might make me about 2k poorer), but the only difference is that the second one has not been down and is very minty compared to the first one.

Please help!
thanks!

OP, you do know the stator is on the left side (always as if sitting on the bike).

IMO, there is only one obvious choice. Unless one has a bias on colour, which still would be hard to swallow for its problems.

x2 ... my preference. I like the jazzier color scheme ... and would avoid a bike with scratches and dents that are only offset by a Power Commander, a few K fewer miles, tidy tail and pipes (even though guys on here love themselves some Sato pipes)

How much are they both asking?

I meant the clutch cover? I will not admit I dont know the difference between the covers The seller said stator cover, I assumed that's what it was called, but the picture is of the clutch cover on the right side ..what the obvious choice? 04 Nicky?..to answer a future price question they both are 6500

That means that the bike only has damage on the right side then. Wanted to confirm.

Still it is min $1500 to get the major parts on the right side fixed with new oem stuff. And there are probably a few other parts that inevitably are found to add to the cost. That 06 is not worth anywhere near $6500 with the damage imo.

Yeah, $5K tops ... maybe less.

Damage is costly to fix on these, if you want to use OEM parts ... and some OEM parts are no longer available.

So, the 04 for 6500 is worth it? I could possibly talk him down to 6...maybe

I paid 5200 for my 04 last year With 10k. Overall a very clean bike other than a few very minor scratches... Came with Jardine 2/1, hotbodies undertail and had the 15/42 520 conversion. If it's as minty as you say I'd try for 5500

Oh sorry ... no, not to me ... sub-$6000 is more like it ... but they can be hard to find, so it depends on how long you're willing to wait to find another one. Well, not hard to find, if you're willing to travel and willing to accept some flaws It sounds like you're reasonably flexible since you're considering both an 04 and an 06, and you don't seem to mind the side damage on the 06. Being flexible will certainly help you find one.

So ... I'd tell him you have $5500 cash (assuming you do!) ... and work up a little from there if he won't take 55. If you can show him $5500 cash ... without fear of him robbing it from you(!) ... and at least fake a willingness to walk away, even if you're not ... and mention another bike or two that you're considering, one you're 'going to see on Tuesday' even if you're not ... you might get him down some.

Edit: ... and there ya go: Grape ape and I both came up with $5500 separately.
