Newbie Undertail question

I want to install something in the fender that will remove that huge honking license plate holder, but keep everything else stock. I don't quite like the idea of cutting fender plastic off to install the hot bodies under tail. Has anyone done this? Keep the whole rear area intact except for the license plate holder? Can I just remove it without requiring to remove everything else, and without any cutting?

thanks in advance for any suggestions!

it has to be cut, best bet is to get another battery tray to cut from a donor bike

Just look at what you have and think of your options. I have cut the fender flap shorter to make it look more proportional on other bikes and it worked great. But I haven't seen a stock RC51 rear fender but in a long time and can't remember the details. There may be enough room to relocate the plate higher too, and the plate light as well. Or remove the plate light altogether, it isn't hard. Just think outside the box.

There is another way... If you get one of those lightweight batteries and zip tie it to the subframe, you don't need the battery tray and therefore the whole stock undertail anymore. How many more posts until I can post pics ;-?

Once you've done this and you go ahead with a hotbodies undertail, you end up with a bit of a hole because the hotbodies is obviously shorter. You can then make something up with PVC to fill the gap.
Keep in mind if you go hotbodies, you HAVE to look up the "Change out Hotbodies undertail lights to brighter/safer lights" thread in the How-To Articles (sorry can't post links either).

Here's the link cwp's talking about: https://www.rc51forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=13353

Another item needing support is the computer brain ... I secured mine better using zip ties.
