Ask GISH how he came out. Take a look at your ground connections and battery voltage.

My trip also resets itself I didn't know it wasn't supposed to. I do know the bike has some micky mouse battery in it by the previus owner. mabe my battery is at fault also I've never been concerned because the bike cranks over good.

Trouble shoot with this, its right out of the manual. The wires being refered to are in the wiring harness/connector of the meter.
