2003 fork seal ??? please help

2003 rc51 was sitting for 5 months on kick stand , ride the bike less then 5 miles to get fresh gas , fork seal looked to be leaking a little enough to coat the tube and dripped onto brake pads , wiped the tubes down and replaced pads with old ones but still work , ok here is my ???? i have taken the forks off the bike and one end on the ground i push down up and down about 10 times , the tubes are dry , what does this mean ?? maybe after riding the bike a few 100 miles the seals dont leak anymore ?? could this be true , or am i kidding myself .

Probably kidding yourself....once they leak, it just gets worse usually. Have you checked to make sure there is any fluid left??

I've seen a video from Dave Moss that if fork seals sit too long, the spring on the seal can slack up a bit, causing the seal to weep.
But if the fork is used, the spring can regain tension and the seal again seals.

I had this happen somewhat on my 'Busa as I didn't ride it much (preferred the Honda).
I had no problem with the left seal and suddenly it started weeping a bit.

I remembered what Dave Moss said, so I started riding it more often, and it started sealing better.
However, I'm of the opinion that once a seal starts leaking, it will only get worse over time.

Chances are the there was a piece of dirt between the slider and the seal, which caused the leak. At some point it got dislodged and you don't have a leak anymore. Probably still a good idea to change them out anyways. Perfect time to change the fluid, spring and get them set up for you. Or just send them out and get dan kyle to set them up for you.
